I had a sephia edit of this one and I went back to color. I am trying to come up with enough barns to put together a calander for next year. By the way. Rock City is a tourist attraction and you see signs like this one up and down I-75 in the south east. What do you think?

I love the barn, it's a great subject. The sky is too uninteresting to warrant that much of the scene. You could crop that to a pano and not change the scene much. I wish the "Rock City" was lit better, maybe a remote flash?

I mostly agree with EOSThree on the sky. To me it is part of the feeling of the image: it's blandness makes the weather seem stable at the same time as it looking like it could storm. But the ratio of sky to ground seems too much. The barn's shape is good, but I feel that it's somewhat poorly lit - there is just so much lost in those shadows. Perhaps you could bump up the exposure of the shadow area in PP?

Thanks Tyson, EOS and GB. Maybe one for a reshoot. A pano is a good idea but isn't the right size for a calander. I need a nice one that looks like winter but unfortunatly I would have to move to see any snow.

Greg, I think better light here. The greys of the barn blend in too much with the sky here. What lens are you shooting here? Anyway to get wide..closer? Its a nice subject.

Thanks Rod. I was using the 14-54mm. Wider yes, closer I doubt it. I will certainly go back it's an easy one to get to.

I like the grays and fog for the sense of loneliness. The Rock City doesn't stand out though if you had wanted it to.

Funny, I didn't even notice "Rock City" on my home computer screen, but noticed it today on my work laptop (you would think it would be the reverse, since laptop screens are usually darker).

Greg,

I think you need to do some more PP on the sky to darken it down a touch to make it look more oppresive.

I can see the point in cropping some of the sky off the pic but if you need to keep the same aspect ration then it's going to be difficult.

Other than that, nice pic.

BC, GB, Roger thanks. I will layer it and darken the sky and see what I get.

Greg,

I like the overall feel of the shot, but I agree that the sky is the weak point. Similar to what Roger is saying, I would recommend adding a gradient to the sky - similar to what you would get with a graduated ND filter.
