I know alot of you have a pair. After this season, and the amount of winter hiking me and the wife have done, we are in the market for a pair of shoes. Wondering if anyone can recommend a pair. Or at least give me some pointers on good pairs / bad pairs, things to look for, goods and bads about them.

Thanks !

Ben

Hey Ben,

I have a pair of Redfeather 36" Hike snowshoes and I love them. There are different styles, and different bindings depending on what you're planning on using them for. I bought mine at Sierra Trading Post (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/). They were the cheapest I could find at the time and the transaction was smooth. Just don't give them your email address because they send out a TON of sale emails. :)

I was thinking of getting the wife a pair for Christmas, but she said she didn't want them. At that time, I was finding the best deals at Amazon.

I have heard good things about Atlas snowshoes as well, but I have no experience with them.

thanks for the response mike - I think we are going to wait and hopefully find a pair on sale after the season. Just trying to get ready to know what to look for.

I just bought a pair of Redfeather Explore on clearance really cheap at Snow Shack (http://www.snowshack.com/detail/SNW+RF-05514+25). They're marked '06 and don't look like the ones on the Redfeather site (but do look just like what you see at the link) so they must be two years old. I also bought Redfeather 3-section poles. There a lot of deals on snowshoes this time of year but it's a matter of finding what you want in the size you want. I have 36" too which are still available here, but not many other places.

Haven't had a chance to try them out yet but hopefully this weekend... :)

Thanks for the response and advice. I ordered 2 pair of shoes today from the snowshack - a pair of the explore shoes for the wife since they didn't have the 30 or 36" ones for me. Also ordered the hike snowshoes for me in 30". Both are made by redfeather. Found a code online for 10% off which ended up being what shipping charges were so we basically saved on shipping.

We decided to wait on the poles. Going to try it without them but have our eye on a pair of poles from cabela's.

Thanks again for the input !

The first year I got my snowshoes, I only used poles once. Some inexpensive hiking poles I picked up at Walmart. This year I used them several times. I really like them as long as I'm just out for a hike, and don't have the camera or dogs with me. They help to give your upper body a good workout.
