I will be moving onto the next project in art which is painting a self portrait with oils. I want it to stand out and have people be stunned when they see it. But I don’t know how I want to be posed in it. In art class, I made a picture portrait, with a kind of soft metal and I drew on it with toothpicks and stuff. I want to buy the metal online or in some store, but I don't know what it's called! And where can I get it online?

Irina, I moved your thread here. Who knows, you might get lucky and find someone who knows something about this stuff... :)

I've seen that in craft shops here in the UK, some kind of scraperboard.
Is it like this? http://www.armadilloart.com/scraper_art.htm
Google scraperboard if it is, lots of suppliers.

Could be aluminum or copper I'd guess - I remember doing something like this a long time ago. Aluminum flashing would probably be about the right thickness, and sold in "big box" hardware stores near the roofing and gutter supplies. It comes on a roll usually about a foot wide; one side would be colored (white, brown, etc) but the other side might be bare (aluminum is silvery in color, look at the bottom of a can of Coke). Copper flashing is also available and used for the same purpose, but would be harder to find - you might have to call a roofing or gutter contractor that specializes in working with copper.

Wow, almost like very thick aluminum foil might work. I say this because I bought the wrong type foil at the store, extra thick or sturdy or something, and it would almost work for your project.
