This may be the best I have got so far for this bird. I know it's not gonna be comparable to some of the marvelous shots here.

So, just want to know: did I pass?

I've only got a 6mp camera. I've been wondering it it would look better if it were shot with something like a 10-12 mp.

I think it looks great. Exposure can be pretty tricky when shooting into a bright sky, but you handled it well. A lot of times with shots like this, you will end up with the sky fooling your meter and you end up with a silhouette.

I'm still shooting with a 6mp too. :) I don't think it would look any better with more megapixels. With a higher resolution file, you would be able to crop in tighter and still make a nice print. Other than that, I don't think more pixels would make the image look better.

Looks pretty good to me. Is that an Owl?

that's a great image in many ways. Nicely exposed, body position is flawless(to me).

Also knowing my raptors and their behavior well, Harriers have great eyesite and don't usually pose so close to humans like that. You got the added bonus of being in the right place at the right time with a cooperative subject!

Thanks guys for looking and the encouragements!

I took that shot today and I think I was lucky that the bird finally decided to come a bit closer to me. Still very far, I believe, but closer (except may be once when it got me by surprise) than most of the time I've seen it. So to get the end result here, I did some cropping and made some adjustment pp.

But, If that one was close, this one was even closer:

Again, some cropping and pp.

But, why does this one seem to have different colors?

Second one is a young male starting to change to adult plumage

First one is an adult female

These are beautiful shots, I like the 2nd one best as the background seems to add to the shot.

Excellent! I'd be proud of them if they were mine - so, yes, I'd say you passed.

Umm, depends. How much of a crop was this and how large do you intend to enlarge it if you decide to print it? I have plenty of images shot with a 6mp camera that still continue to sell well. And at 8" x 10" and even 11" x 14", it's very difficult to see the "lack" of resolution unless you are nose close to the print.

I like the 1st image better of the two btw.
