I was was looking into buying a digital SLR camera and i wanted some advice. My primary use is going to be to take pictures during the road season of cycling. Right now i have a little crappy Nikon coolpix 4600. it does take nice pictures, but i want better. Alot of them come out blurry and a cant focus on the certain things i want to. I was asking my one friend what kind of camera to get and he suggested the digital SLR canon rebel Xi, i think, or a Nikon D80. i wanted to know which one is believed to be the best. I also dont know alot about what lens to use. Is there a certain one you use when you shoot cycling? Any suggestions or information would help me out alot.

as you can tell I'm a nikon fan, it seems to fit right in my hand, and the controls are right for me. But along with anything else what is right for me might not be right for you. Go to your local camera shop and test them out for yourself, see what feels right for you, in your hand mess with the controls, that is what I did. Then I went on the internet and found the best price and bought it from them.

When it comes to glass (a lens), the lower the F/ number the better a lot of people on here are shooting with f/2.8's like my nikon 80-200 f/2.8 (which I don't have any sports shots up with it yet). If you can't afford a low aperture get a flash for your camera.

If you have a place that you can rent a kit, you can try both and see which one you like. The real question is how much do you have to spend?

One rule that I have heard is the body doesn't matter as much as the glass. For example it is better to buy a Canon Rebel Xti and a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM than it would Canon 5D with a Tamron Autofocus 75-300mm f/4-5.6 LD. The price would be about the same, but you are going to be much happier in the end with the Rebel. The only exception is if there is a particular function that you want and the Rebel doesn't do.
