A couple from the local team game tonight. They hosted the tournament then lost a close one. They are one of the top teams in the state, they really have a problem when down in the fourth quarter though. Hope they get that resolved before state tourny time.

what settings did you use for this also how were you using your flash? was it mounted?

The camera settings for these were:
ISO 800
f2.8
1/320 shutter
Centerweighted Metering
Single area focus (center sensor)
As for the flash, I use 2 Sunpak 383s mounted on clamps and clamped to the railings about 15 rows up in the stands. They are just behind both corners and aimed at the top of the key about 10' above the floor so that they cross. Both are set at 1/2 power and triggered with Elinchrom Skyport RF triggers.

I'll prob ask you that again about the flashes, do they work good with the d50? because they are a lot better priced than nikon flashes. I'm looking to get a 80-200 f2.8 like what you have... where did you find yours if I can ask.

I love that top photo. The girl's expression is priceless and the action is great. I keep seeing different scenarios of what happens next. :)

retroactiv: Yes, the 383s work on the D50 but only in their own auto mode or manual. (no TTL) I actually sold my SB600 and got these since I never use auto settings (or on-camera flash for that matter) anyway. As for the 80-200, I got it used in Demo condition from Adorama. The one I have is the "one touch" or sliding zoom type. Some folks don't seem to like that model preferring the "two touch" which uses a rotating ring for the zoom. I personally have grown to like it and have had no problems in the hundreds of times I've used it. It's also built like a tank. (and the weight shows it)
skydiver6: She scores and gets a foul which she also makes. She is over 1500 points in her HS career and one of the top guards in the state. If her team can get on track in tight games, they are one of the favorites to do well in the state tournament. One of the most special things about the KY state BB tournament is that it's not classed. Just the 16 regional champions regardless of school size fighting it out. It's FABULOUS!

If you cover the North Stars on a regular basis over the years you have gotten to see some great girls BB. I saw them in the State Tourn. a few years ago in Diddle they were great.

Yea, I shot there last year and hope to get to again this year. This group has been really good for the last two years and they have six seniors this year. But, the main issue has usually been their failure to rise up in close games when they get down late. So far they're not showing signs of improving that this year either, we'll see.

I like these a lot. Have you given any thought to or tried bouncing the two flashes off the ceiling as opposed to shooting them straight on? Do you know what the ambient light measures in the gym?
