I hope a lot, then shoot with my 1 yr old camera. I think it is capable of better results than I get. (But what is the relative gem v duds??)
Is this where I should be in order to connect with other IXUS 40 users?
Does anyone know of an online tutorial that might help me?

Hello, Audrey. Welcome to PhotographyREVIEW.com and Happy New Year!
This forum is a good place to connect with digital photographers of all types. But mostly people post "what camera to buy" questions here. And you probably don't really need other IXUS 40 (SD300) users. The basic principles of photography are the same no matter what camera you use. So you probably just need to learn some new techniques and tricks to get the most out of your camera. And those techniques will work for almost any camera. Last year I wrote an article on how to get the most from point-and-shoot digital cameras. That would probably help you a lot:
Point-and-Shoot Digital Camera Tips >> (http://www.photographyreview.com/digitalcameratipscrx.aspx)
If you just want to start connecting with other photographers and generally sharing, introduce yourself on our ViewFinder forum. That's like the PhotographyREVIEW.com cafe or living room:
ViewFinder Forum >> (http://forums.photographyreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17)
If you want to get serious feedback on how to improve your photography, you can post your images on the Photo Critique forum. You will get very good, very specific advice there about composition, exposure, and technical advice. It's one of our busiest and best forums:
Photo Critique Forum >> (http://forums.photographyreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30)
And please post a review for your camera. The foundation of this site is user reviews for cameras and photography accessories. Here's a link to the review page for your camera:

Welcome to the site again! I hope this helps you find what you need and I hope you stick around and share with us. The more the merrier :)
