On my way to the market this morning I got this.......

I like it. But I think more of a panorama crop to get rid most of the black sky.

Stunning shot, stopped me in my tracks. I agree with freyg, I think it would enhance the metering aspect of the shot (the colored lines demarcated in the water) but perhaps make the colors appear less saturated. I kind of like it as is but think a panoramic crop might be more damatic. Certainly something to try. I see it as the opening page of a website, with the photographers name splashed across the darkness(perhaps by light, or spilled ink) with each light tendril in the pool another area of the sight. Just a thought, it is a photograph that makes a person stop.

i actually like the dark leading to the blue, leading to the skyline.

but then again i LOVED neopolitan ice cream.

kinda of like a photo ice cream sandwich if you will.

abandon the rules.

I would crop it proportionally from the top-left, which would get rid of some of the dark sky and move the monument away from the center.

Your colors are just phenomenal.

I saw your #2 picture before I saw this one. It struck me as so-so.

Upon viewing this one, I think you should keep it how it is! :)

I don't think you should do any cropping on this. The transition from dark to light is lovely as are the colors. Print it as-is and charge a lot when you sell it. :p

Ehm.. pretty color photo. Yup, just don't like the black clauds over there, or maybe the composition of that black clauds not to balance yeah. to much on the left top side.

actually it would be interesting to know which version was/is preferred at your market.

i would honestly think (as i liked one over two) that this version would be a best seller (or show more interest).

however, if you wouldn't mind telling us which shot had the most enquiries i think that we could perhaps learn a few things from that.

i.e. where 'rules' work or don't work.


i have looked at hundreds and hundreds of photos (as was recommended to me on here in for order for me to improve) and i certainly see that "we" (collectively, not the royal one ~ u.k. humour) perhaps see things from the photography perspective when perhaps joe public prefers something that does in fact break rules. they are looking at it as in 'will that look good in my blue/green/red living room.study' as opposed to "is the object of the shot in the centre too much."

just wondering for a "human perspective" interest rather than a "noobie trying to improve."

is "what sells" necessarily what is photographically correct or does it really matter as long as it matches the drapes and furniture ??

i used to have a friend who was an excellent artist. at that time (back around 80-ish) she was bashing out pictures of conch shells in pastels. she hated it but they sold by the bucket load.

of course it paid some overheads and allowed her to pursue the other stuff she liked to do (as in canvases and oils) and although she had to "compromise" her principals for the time, she was quite "happy" to take the money to supplement supplies.


just interested in which one is preferred. (in 9 out of 10 taste tests....people preferred......)

nice, I think it pretty much works as is, I like the dark sky transition, and I think the extra vivid colors work for this shot. Something about one of the bushes on the right bothers me, I think it's the the one that looks a bit blob like maybe from wind blur at slow shutter.
