View Full Version : Waiting in the Window CLKunst 11-28-2007, 07:25 AM Comments and critiques welcome. Suggestions cheerfully explored but please leave the editing to me. MB1 11-28-2007, 08:48 AM It is a nice composition. Since there isn't much color I'm thinking it would be perfect for a B&W conversion. My one issue is that I can't really tell what that is in the window; you, a dog, a cat, The Flying Nun? I'm thinking dog but I am just not sure. Overbeyond 11-28-2007, 10:09 AM I agree with MB as regards the identity of "it". I will err on the dog side. I like seeing the square tiles through the rectangular panels. It may be a little tight at the bottom (or should I say rear end?) but you possible had no control on this aspect. I think you saw an excellent opportunity here and you have come up with a very enjoyable and unusual shot. CLKunst 11-28-2007, 11:40 AM MB & OB thank you for commenting. "It" is a dog. :yesnod: A little Whippet named Samson, who was waiting for his people to return; I was keeping him company. I wondered how identifiable the silhouette would be which was why I didn't explain the image at first. I considered the B/W conversion but like the warmth of the color. The bottom of the shot is a little crowded because I didn't want the actual dog in the picture just the shadow. I'm glad the composition agrees with you as I felt it was the strongest of what I got from the moment. If interested I will post others for comparison. SmartWombat 11-28-2007, 12:02 PM It's obviously a dog. It definitely doesn't belong as B&W, it needs that colour in the floor. I like the space around the window. It would be less attractive cropped to a square image say, using the lower 2/3. Frog 11-28-2007, 01:22 PM I thought 'dog' and didn't question my interpretation until I saw others thinking it might not be a dog but I couldn't see anything else there. I think the image will evoke different feelings in different people and that you saw something and were able to capture it. Good job. readingr 11-28-2007, 11:19 PM Scoobydo - its so obvious :D Love it and definitely keep the colour. Nicely captured Roger GB1 11-29-2007, 08:16 AM CL - I like the idea and the execution. It is a tad bit soft but very nice overall. I would however crop off the top negative space (black area) so to get to the point faster. Nice. G AmberC 11-29-2007, 08:19 AM I actually though of 101 Dalmations!! hehe I like it! gahspidy 11-29-2007, 09:28 AM Cindy, this is very good. I like this alot. I immediately recognized it as a dog and thought it was obvious. If is is not as obvious as I thought it was, it might be an idea to change the title to "dog in the window" so it gets across immediately. I agree the soft color in there should stay, it is part of the appeal. I like the image as it is with no crop. . .it has a certain mysterious feel to it, but I can also see a crop from the top just to the right upper corner window so as to have three side of the image touching a frame. It would probably look good like that but i enjoy this original version very much Well done yogestee 11-29-2007, 06:39 PM Cindy,,,,,convert this image into mono, increase the contrast a tad and the texture in tiles will jump out of the frame at you..Crop the negative space at the top for more impact also..You could have a winner here!! Jurgen CLKunst 11-30-2007, 04:23 AM Wow! Thanks for all the great thoughts on this one. I decided to try out a Black & White Version with the crop, because that's what cheerful exploration is all about. :) After going back and forth I still think I prefer the original with the color but I'm glad I can now say that 100% without doing the "what if" dance. Further comments, critiques and comparisons welcome. gahspidy 11-30-2007, 10:28 AM The crop looks great, but I prefer it with color. CLKunst 11-30-2007, 01:45 PM Thanks Gary! Frog 11-30-2007, 02:18 PM I prefer the original. threelions usa 11-30-2007, 02:51 PM 2nd crop ~ 1st colour.. |
