The word that came into my head was, "gnarly." Maybe that dates me. But damn. Those photos are gnarly.

The main thing with photos like that is putting in the time so you can be there when the action happens. But I can't help but wonder what kind of gear he was shooting with. And if he's using the best new digital SLR gear, how much difference it's made in his ability to get the shot. Because those photos remind me of shooting an action sequence. You want perfect auto focus and you want to be able to blast off a fat sequence and check them later to see which is best. Because there's no way you can really time photos like those. I mean, you can. But, you can't really. Because something like that happens way to fast for you to discern the subtle differences.

Crazy. Thanks for posting that link. That's good stuff. Unless you're a seal.

According to the article, the photo ''artist'' spends 6 months a year simply waiting..

Very frightening, I don't know how people can surf knowing those things are lurking out there.

saw shark week and wonder if these shots are "frozen" t.v. film shots.

i saw the one where they towed a seal behind the boat measured it's bit to determine how big the animal was. then they showed how far it can leap in the air.

they did the same thing will killer whales i believe.

still great shots though.....

''IF'' those are frozen TV shots, then would it not discredit the photographer?
I mean it has his name in the article and surley someone would have called him on that...
