I'm thinking this one needs to be blown up large as the details are pretty small but customers seem to be always asking for rowers on the Potomac.

Thoughts?

The second may just be too dark, I'll see how it prints.

I really like the first one. Great colors. I don't really mind that the details are small. I like the pattern the oars leave in the water and would like to see that punched up but if you zoomed in any, you'd lose the great colors in the sky.


You shot them off the Key Bridge, right?

MB1, I really like the colors in the first, but I wish the rower were a little further up. I like the second one more, but it could be a little brighter to bring out the colors. They're both nice shots.

The first photo has a strong mood present and good color. I like the relation between the vast water and the small boat, but wish the boat were higher up in the frame as stated already.
The second photo has a sort of abstract feel to it from the texture of the water and the point of view. I t looks a little like a face on a textured surface. The little whirlpools from the paddles being the eyes and the boat itself the nose. I also would have liked the boat caught up higher in the frame on this.

i REALLY like the first one and would love to see a larger version.

i understand the boat is supposed to be small in relation to the rest but i would like to see them.

the colours are spectacular.

actually the second one i prefer the boat to be "leaving the fame" ~ i know it is in direct contradiction to what is the norm, but i like the "wake" that they leave behind.

again i would like to see them in a big picture. i think the second one might be the better of the two in that regard. very simple. thinking of it from the rowers perspective. all you can see is where you have been and not where you are going.

is there a sport where the participants never actually see the finishing line come up and only see it when you have gone past it ???

The only thing i would add is that in the first, i would have preferred to see them more vertical and (maybe?) in the center...as
as in moving right and panning left a bit!

Otherwise these are some really nice shots!

BTW yes, I was standing on the Key Bridge.

I like them but agree that there should be more seperation between the boat and the bottom of the frame.

Hmm..

Not sure how I feel on the first one. It might need to be printed and framed, then examined for a few months before one can truly know. It seems to have a strong elegance to it (as does the other version of it you posted) in the background where the buildings and sky are, but overall I think that the rowers don't have the same level of sophistication as the rest of the shot. It's almost like the background would be idea for a classical sailing ship visit.

I really like the second one but would loved to have seen the boat dead centre and vertical. I would also like to have the whirlpools of the oars a bit more pronounced (whiter). The sleek streak of the yellow boat looks lovely against the dark blue of the water.

I like both of these shots but I actually like the second one more. The brightness/contrast is perfect. As for the first, having the rowers where they are emphasizes the enormity of their task. I think it's perfect as is.
