Love the colour of the background in the fourth shot, it's a pity the plant head was the point in focus instead of the eyes of the damselfly but it's still a great shot.

The last shot is spot on...great!

I agree, the colors in the 4th one are great.

nps, I think you're overthinking the need for flash. While it may help, it also produces a completely different look to the images. And if you're hoping to use it as a main light source (to gain DOF), then your backgrounds will be unnaturally dark. Guaranteed.

FWIW, what I do is survey the field and look for the best lit area. Look for a subject there and don't bother with the areas that have bad lighting.

Kinda like if you lost your keys in a dark alley at night. Search where the light is because you're not going to find it looking for it in the dark anyway :)
