I captured this photo one morning in Eastern MA and so far, have been unable to identify what kind of insect it is. I wish I had a bit more DOF.
If anyone knows what this is, I'd appreciate the info.

I dunno the common name (or scientific one for that matter) but we get these or ones like them in my parts. I usually find them in the deep woods near small streams.
But I'm really lovin' that shadow your bugger is casting. Any chance you took a shot from directly below?

You are correct on both points.
First, I did take this deep in the woods in a area rich with streams. Second, yes, this was taken directly below the bug. I was in the right place at the right time.
