We had the tall ships in the harbor over the weekend and the photo club went down to get some shooting in. Me and another member were clicking off shots at the passing seagulls to see who could get the better shot - canon vs nikon - I had my 70-200VR and after I got this shot he quit playing :D

thanks Brent - I was just using them as some panning practice - never done it before - I am sure the VR really helped out in it. Hope I can get lucky sunday at the nascar race too

Not so dull!! these birds make great subjects to practice panning techniques and in flight shot work, and you have done well here to keep body in focus and show motion in the wings, i agree, to finish this shot would be to clone out the clutter in the corner, but as you said only practising! and this ones to be proud of.

Thanks Bev for the kind words! I was amazed myself when I opened it up and seen the results.

Nice job, Ben. Judging by the blur on the wings, you were using quite a slow shutter (good for showing motion) - so the fact that you got the face tack sharp says a lot about your panning/tracking performance here.

You should have no problems following those silly cars :p Joking of course (jealous really). :)

Loupey and Roger - Thanks! Was fun to try something new and get results like this. Shutter speed was 1/100 at f16
