My church group holds service at a member's house due to the fact that her husband has cancer and her back yard.. is amazing. I call her the butterfly lady. She has thousands of caterpillars and butterflies there constantly. They land on you while your in the back yard. She also has mourning doves nesting under her porch in a makeshift nest she made. I love being at her house.

Anyways.. While there yesterday, there were black swallowtails that had laid all over a plant in her yard (most of these are ones that she released herself) so I was able to get a few pictures. She has monarchs in a net at the moment. She gave my daughters a chrysalis to let go and also gave us some fennel with eggs and a swallowtail caterpillar.

This one was agitated.

I know this one is kinda dark, but I actually quite like the affect of the light and shadow of it.

Nice shots - I guess the name comes from the butterfly not the caterpillar. So much to learn about wildlife.

Thanks Roger, I am pretty sure the catepillars have their own name.. but I dont know it lol. I just know that this particular kind turns into black swollowtail butterflies. :)

Nice - glad you got the orange thing out of the head end.
It's a bizarre way to protect themselves from predators.

Yes Roger, the name comes from the butterfly they turn into.
