View Full Version : Cabin in the Woods gahspidy 07-29-2007, 07:49 AM What do you think? Thanks http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/20070625-1721-Edit.jpg Overbeyond 07-29-2007, 09:21 AM There's a nice fairytale feel to this Gary and I like the laneway that leads off into the mystic light. The middle tree seems to be blocking off the front door; I would like to see the door. The light on the gable is very nice. The cabin is not very old I would guess going by the build style of the chimney; like a filmset. I think you captured it very nicely. drg 07-29-2007, 11:56 AM The cabin points down the road as if to say, 'this is the end of the trail'. By not including the boughs of all the trees, the cabin nestles down nicely in the woodland scene. Seems as if there is a lot of dirt and forest floor? I know, it's the woods! Strong catches of light on the cabin, trees trunks and the ground give this some added depth as well. Glad to see this one! Did you camp here? Greg McCary 07-29-2007, 11:59 AM Nice peaceful scene. Very well composed. Good shot Gary. Greg swmdrayfan 07-29-2007, 04:39 PM A lovely shot Gary. A lot of serenity here. John Dave_2_@hotmail.com 07-29-2007, 06:52 PM Nice shot. Have you tried it in black and white? It would also be cool to return to this shot in the winter to catch some snow on the ground... that is if this spot ever gets snow..hah -Dave Tyson L. Sparks 07-29-2007, 06:55 PM Love it Gary, Love the color B&W would ruin this one in my eyes. Looks like a place I would want to be. Great capture. gahspidy 07-29-2007, 08:32 PM thanks for the comments, Tom. . .I remember having difficulty getting the composition I wanted and including the door. It's a good point. I'm glad you find it has a fairy tale quality. drg . . . alot of perceptive analysis there, thanks. Yes, there is alot of floor. This was on a trail in a wildflower preserve. It was one of many trails and it was called "Cabin Run" I'm not sure if this Cabin is actually used for anything other than a prop in the preserve. Greg . . .Certainly glad you find this works. thanks for the time. John . . .Thank you for your feedback on this. Appreciated Dave . . .This would be a sight in the snow, i'm sure. I may try to hit back here in the fall to see what the colored leaves bring to this. I tried this in B&w and it looked fine, but i felt the colors in this one actually added to the mood and overall imapct of the scene. thanks for the comments Tyson . . .Having tried the b&w, I agree with you on that.(Actually, a conversion to b&w is part of my post process flow) I have tried so many different editing versions and finally settled on this which is very close to the original image to begin with. thanks mamajan 07-29-2007, 09:10 PM Really nice Gary. It looks like a relaxing place where I would like to be right now. The colors are nice, and the road seems to be calling me to take a quiet walk and discover what lies beyind the trees. Thanks for sharing it. GB1 07-30-2007, 11:54 AM Gary - Haven't read the other threads. I like the shot but feel that the cabin is just a tad too close to the side of the image. I think you may have done so because you wanted the path to be in the shot also. In this situation I would have move over to the left and made the vanishing pt more extreme. And where's the bear in the pic!? :D Exposure is good, lighting was great, and the shot is pretty sharp too. I like the cabin... looks like it's locked up cause all the windows seem to be wooded closed. I guess that's to keep critters and mammals out. GB gahspidy 07-30-2007, 08:44 PM Thanks for your comments mamajan and GB1. Yes, standing over a bit more to the left could have produced a nice composition it seems but I seem to recall there was alot of brush and foliage right next to me and is probably why I did not do that. I was using a tripod as well. i think this Cabin is basically a prop in this wildflower preserve. Thanks for the thoughts. freygr 07-31-2007, 10:54 AM My only thing is the cabin looks too new ;-) But I like the dream quality of the setting. gahspidy 08-01-2007, 09:41 PM My only thing is the cabin looks too new ;-) But I like the dream quality of the setting. I know what you mean. I'll have to beat it up a bit next time . . . Thanks for the thoughts Jeff685 08-02-2007, 04:39 AM I'm very fond of this, and I think regardless of whether it was in colour or B&W, it would look great all the same. It instantly made me think of Robert Frost's poetry. The only thing about it that I don't like is that there are some leaves in the bottom left that I found a bit distracting, but otherwise great work :) |
