My wife and I drove down to San Clemente on Saturday for a day at the beach with the youth group from our Baptist church. On our way home we decided to stop in San Juan Capistrano. I had never been there and wanted to see the mission because I love historical points of interests. We only got to spend a short time in there as we were close to closing time. But here are a few shots from the grounds and inside the mission chapel. I also took my newly acquired Canonet 28 for a test spin using Kodak Elite Chrome 200 slide film, of which I just finished the roll today and will probably have the slides back next week.

Some photos converted by my RAW software to b/w or b/w with a tone applied.

Ray those are just awesome.....

Very nice series! I think several of them especially stand out - the flower at the top, and also the candles. I think others like the Church sign etc are very very close to being standouts also, just need an exposure or compositional tweak here and there. Really great borders too - I may need to try that myself to put a little elegance in some of my shots.

One of those places that Walt Disney introduced me to in the late 50's. It never look this great on the old black and white Olympia TV. Wonderfully colorful images Ray.

Excellent shots Ray. We go there for mass like three times a year but my family is always too much in a rush for me to take pictures. I always knew I was missing out on something.

Thanks everyone! It looks like the candle shot seems to be the favorite of the bunch. My wife likes the water lily and actually wants me to print it and hang in the house somewhere.

I sure wish I had had more time for shooting. Historical places such as this are a photographer's paradise. In fact, there was a wedding reception about to take place that day. I just happened to run into the photographer who was shooting the wedding couple and bridesmaids. I was standing behind the photographer and saying to my wife what an excellent spot for a wedding photo. The guy who was taking video told me that the photographer was one of the best in southern California. I didn't get his name, but being a photographer myself, I just had to take a look at the setting through my viewfinder. I wasn't going to take a picture, I just wanted to frame the scene to see what it looked like. The photographer turned around and looked at me with a real dirty look, like "What in th world do YOU think YOU'RE doing?" Like I said, I wasn't planning on taking a picture, but after he gave me that look I snapped off two pictures just to let him know I didn't care what he thought, LOL.

Yeah, me too, but I'm a bit anxious about it. I found out the light meter doesn't work on the camera, even after putting in a new replacement battery. So I had to meter using my XTi. Hopefully I will have correctly exposed the roll. We'll see!!

Thanks Eric. Yeah, I've done about three weddings so far, and it hasn't bothered me one bit that someone else is taking photos, unless of course the flash is going off and it will offset my exposure. But I had no flash on my camera, so there was no need for the photog to worry. Perhaps it was just his ego, you know, being "one of the best photographers in southern California" and all. :D

I agree with your wife. A beautiful, elegant shot. Would go nicely in just about any room.

These are beautiful. I'd love to take classes from someone like you to see your thought process from getting ready to shoot to the final product.

I collect religious icons, crosses, rosaries etcetcetc..... There's some sort of connection of comfort and mystique all rolled into one for me. You caught that emotion I feel in your pics from the church. I just love those.

I REALLY like this shot. I love taking shots of people doing what they do, oblivious to the camera (or at the exact moment they notice the camera). It's where I want to take my photography.
