We went on a hike at the Great Dismal Swamp yesterday and was able to identify everything except these little guys. I've been searching, but no luck. Can anyone help me out? Thanks :)

I don't have a clue. And I've seen a lot of bugs :)

Looks like puffed wheat cereal. Did you try one :p

HA! I've tried a whole lot of weird shtuff in a lot of different places (ants, grasshoppers, sea urchins straight out of its shell, British food) but the thought of one those gives me the shudders. Looks like they would pop nice and juicy.

While we're on this topic (just how I don't know :p ), on our way back from vacation something hit our windshield (of course it was directly in my line of sight) while doing 75mph on I-77. It was big and left a big RED smear. Anyone know any bugs with red blood? Hope it wasn't a hummingbird.

ugh **shudders**

We were watching this show last night.. I forget what it is called.. but this guy teaches people how to survive in the wild if they get lost. He gets himself lost, then tries to find his way back and he either starts off with nothing, or just little things like a pocket knife, and the clothes on his back. Shows you how to find water, food everything.

Anyways.. last night, he was in the amazon I think.. and he found a tree frog and said that none of them in that area are poisonous and they are good to eat.. then he bit the head off this LIVE tree frog that he was holding in his hand!!!!!! (I have a tree frog tattooed on my back. I love them. I wanted to throw up.) lol

If I ever got lost.. I would die of starvation before I ate any little critters or bugs. Game I could do. Not bugs or amphibians.

Thanks for looking you guys! I'll check out that link Paul.

That was "survivor man" most likely.

Email them an image and location and you should get your answer. You can also try your local college or extention center :)

I'd say hymenoptera (flies) more likely than lepidoptera (bufferflies/moths).
Looks like a kind of sawfly larva perhaps?

I haven't been able to send the picture in anywhere yet. Our water heater busted. There are fans going in there right now. The floor was completely torn up and the wall we found out has some rot going on and we are probably going to have to replace the entire thing :( Yesterday we picked out my new floor. (I am gonna replace it with tile instead of the vinyl that was on it.)

But I looked up the sawfly larvae and got this:

Unless there are more species of them than pictured there?
Thanks for the try!!! :)

Well.. I was still searching on these guys.. and the closest I could find was a colorado potato beetle
http://www.oznet.k-state.edu/dp_hfrr/extensn/problems/colpotat.htm
But that is obviously still not right.

In my frustration, I finally found an email for V-Tech and sent in the photo. They replied with

"They appear to be the larvae of a leaf beetle."
