Definitely the closest I've been able to get to a bull frog.

All but this one particular one jumped/dove often before I could see them. So for this one, I started to belly crawl (like how the military trains recruits to crawl under barbed wire - I suppose) and kept getting closer and closer. Finally, with only the 300mm (no tubes nor 2x), I had my chest over the bank with my head sideways, the camera about 3" from the water, and my right elbow in the pond. Shot at about the closest focusing distance of my lens.

Oh, my satisfaction came a few minutes later when another father came along carrying a butterfly net with his two young boys. I watched him try to nab this same frog and almost fall into the water as the frog made his escape :p At least I got mine!

Thanks for looking, guys! Appreciate it!

I was just thinking that this scenario was another one of those can't-use-a-tripod moment. Seems more and more of my encounters are that way.

Anyway, after I got my shot, I did some more approaches in a more vertical fashion. Two more angles of the same frog.

Hope to get more shots tomorrow (Father's Day) as I get to name the place where I can goof off all day (not just most of the day) :p

I'm amazed at the lengths some photographers will go to, to get "the" shot. Bot wow, those are some shots. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, guys! I'm glad it had some impact.

I took a closer look at the first shot to see if I could me myself in his eyes (the eyes tell all :) )

Yup - there's my sideways head to the right of the weeds :p

Thanks again!

He is cute! I love it :D So far I have only found one frog around here and I almost killed it! It was like 9pm and really dark and I had to go to my car. On the way back I took a step and saw something move just as I was about to put my foot down lol. Of course I had to catch it to show my daughters. I just adore frogs and I was so thrilled when they both held him and were not scared. (My oldest daughter is prissy and my younger one.. well.. shes just moody lol)
