This image has beautiful tones and a nice composition, interesting light too. I can't quite make out whats going on at the bottom right, but maybe I don't need to.

It has its merits. Nice peaceful location in the woods. Could be a tad sharper so that we could make out what's going on at the bottom, and it might be missing a true subject. But I guess the tree is the subject here. Where's a squirrel when you need one?

I agree the b & w tones are very good. The subject is a little too busy for my taste.

Thanks for each of your comments. The idea with this image was the striped bark, (not sure why this happens - type of tree or maybe disease) but I liked the smooth texture the tree had - this was the inner beauty. I appreciate everyone’s feedback. I'm not sure why it comes across as un-sharp, it is most likely due to not being properly set to view on the computer. While the execution may be lacking, I have an idea to work with. Thanks again for your thoughts.

The squirrel was hit by a car on the way to this photo shoot. Tragic story, just tragic.

I think this might be over sharpened but see if it's better.

Ooooh I see now, that helps clear things up a bit.

I can't believe I'm about to say this...GULP... but I think I'd actually like to see this in color :o I like the shot as is but, if your goal was to convey the inner beauty of the wood versus the bark, I think color would give for more separation of the 2. Make the wood really stand out. As it is right now the shot says to me "Cool old tree with lots of character" not "Inner Beauty".

this honestly doesn't do much for me. I don't see any real subject, just a picture of an old tree with nothing else to spark interest. Sorry! but remember, just because I don't find it that interesting doesnt mean another person won't enjoy it!

I'll agree with Aaron in that I feel this may work better in color. The b&w is not helping to seperate the inner area from the bark. Also, I feel that it's coming off too busy looking in b&w and some color might improve that aspect as well.
