Just sat down to relax after a quick supper of frozen pizza, and a pudding cup. I'm going to check out the new posts, and then watch survivor, and CSI.

Cruising the forums, chowing on a Chocolate Graham, recovering from first round of allergy testing and getting ready to pick up my 11 year old at dance class. Just got done folding 2 loads of laundry. Yesterday was the outside stuff, tomorrow the inside. So far, I'm allergic to 9 types of grass and 8 types of weeds in florida. I've been prescribed a lawn guy. Not bad so far. If they tell I'm allergic to Starbucks, chocolate and Diet Coke, they might as well just shoot me now.

I just took a shower. Now I am drinking a diet coke.

Pretty interesting stuff, and very different writing styles. Just getting to work after helping my mom set up for her garage sale today. Not too often you start by shoveling snow...

I'm sitting hger waiting for the next class to come in and thiniking about my 3:30 meeting with the allergist where I will be stuck with a minnimum of 50 needles.

I just got home from hauling a load of scrap metal to the recyclers. I made a cool $65 bucks. I guess now I can buy some gas.

Of course I started re-obsessing as soon as I returned.

Just finished lunch at my desk. Grilled chicken sandwich, fries, and half a bagel with garden vegitable cream cheese. It tasted good, but kinda defeats the purpose of my 4 mile run I just finished. Now I'm trying to LOOK busy for the next 2 hours, then I can leave.

Trying to make SATA drives work with a USB adapter so I can verify the contents and work on rebuilding my desktop machine.
If I can recover data off the C drive ... the main partition seems to have vanished thanks to the "recovery" software on the EISA partition.
Meanwhile I've verified a 250G old drive still spins up, but I need to back up some data from it and the laptop is full.

Just got finished calling a softball for our girls varsity team. Found out my daughters friend will be spending the night, just what I need, 2 noilsy 11 year olds. Finished the allergy testing. I'm now snorting Nasonex and taking Alegra like candy. I'm allergic to 9 types of grasses, a ton of weeds and trees, our dog,cat and bird and dust mites. At least it wasn't Starbucks, chocolate and Diet Coke. I think I'll just go move into a fish tank at the Miami Seaquarium with Lolita the killer whale or the Manateees, according to my daughter I swim like the first and look like the second when we SCUBA.

Well, let me lay out my day for you...

Since we got home last night, I've got a buttload of laundry to do today. So once that is started, I get to shower and go to the grocery store, because all we have here is the ice cream I served our company the day before we left. Then I get to come home and do more laundry, and some dishes, although I can make the girls do those.

What I'm doing right this minute is finishing up responding to my work emails, cleaning all the junk out of my home email, and just ordered our seedlings from www.seedsofchange.com for our garden this year.

It's a fun day.

Just got daughter to bed after dance class. Son is working on a paper for English and I'm making excuses for not uploading 2 gigs worth of spandex. Deckcadet and I shot a bunch of dance class pictures and senior portraits and I forgot to bring home the hard drive to load them on to. Guess I'll do it in the AM. I need to study for my SCIUBA instructor test and veg out in front of CNN and watch the coverage on the VA tech shootings today. Being a teacher, I am always worried about intruder problems and our school policies on what to do. If there is an alert, we are supposed to lock doors, kill the lights and move the kids away from the windows, etc. I'm lucky that the walls of my studio/classroom are black, we only have two doors with small windows and have a big black curtain that blocks the view from the outside. I've decided that if someone did get past that, they will have one hell of a time getting past a pissed off, 6', 220 pound double black belt irishman/father. I refuse to go quietly into the night.

Michael.....as painful as it is, you have to think of what's best for the dog. All of us pet owners have been there. The longer you wait, the more suffering the dog will go thru. A faithful friend doesn't deserve that.

Mike, I don't know what your dog's situation is. My dad had to make the same decision once with a dog who was having hip problems. An old vet told him to start putting whiskey in his drinking water and it kept him going for another 6 months or so. During which time he was happy and very funny to watch ;) Best of luck with your decision man. It's not an easy one.

Michael, sorry to hear that you're in that situation. It's a very hard thing to do but you'll know when that day arrives. With an almost 13 year old diabetic it might not be that far off for me but for now everything is fine. Not fun to think about, but part of life.

It's more or less an in house "gee, look what I/my kids do" The english department already conned Deckcadet and several other advanced students into producing a video for them so they didn't have to do any real work. It's open to the public if anyone wants to come to MIA for the day on 5/16. Yahoo!!!

I went to a spinning class this morning, which almost killed me. Then a trip to Barnes and Nobles, bought a new cookbook. I think I might have gotten hit on while I was there, but I'm not sure. On my way to sign the girls up for summer swimming lessons, then to the local tae kwan do place, my youngest wants to try that. I'm probably not going to make it to the ice rink this afternoon to sign up my oldest. We only do one extra activity at a time, so they still have time to just play, except for swimming lessons, those are every day for two weeks in the summer, so we just add those on to whatever we are doing. We do tend to rotate, so they've tried lots of different activities.

The sitter will be here tonight and dh and I will take the dog out for an hour and just go for a walk, I'm debating about sanding my pantry tonight, the sooner it's sanded the sooner I can paint. Going to be bright yellow...

Just got back from watching Spiderman 3 at an 11:45PM showing. If I knew the movie was gonna be like that, I would've waited. Very strange twist in direction....

Just sitting here at school, waiting for number one and only son to finish with the SAT. He's on 100% extended time, so we get to come back again tomorrow. Also converted all the spandex shots (school dance team, classes and senior portraits) to B&W for the printing of their program.

Preparing for the third funeral service of the week. Lost a colleague along with a father and a grandfather of two of my students. Three deaths in three days all related to different types of cancer. Kept me busy and off the boards for the week.

Took my youngest to her first Tae Kwon Do lesson this morning, she looks so cute in her uniform. Made the girls help me plant morning glories on the hill (read, made them do it while I watched). Okay..here's today so far.

I drywall puttied more in our kitchen. All the drywall is up, just a matter of goop. Sent orders off to print, checked on stuff I'm waiting for. Ribs into the crockpot so we can eat some dinner. My youngest starts TaeKwonDo today, my oldest has Girl Scouts right after school, and I have bosu and kickboxing tonight. Made lunches so everyone can eat during the day, and have laundry going.

Still to do...finish drywall goop, laundry, and general cleaning. Monday is usually cleaning day. Debating about giving the dog a bath. She has allergies, and we are not sure what they are, but the dr suspects beef and/or weeds, so we've cut beef out and try to give her a bath once a week to keep the itching down.

I'm pretty sure that my 12 year old golden is allergic to Florida. What the heck is Bosu? I'm at school updating computers and getting our weather station back on line after updating its computer. Just nailed a freelance gig with a producion house that does everything from weddings to events. I'll be teaching the owner how to do some things better and learning a bit about Macs and workflow on Final Cut Pro so I can teach it to my kids next summer. Met the owner at one of my daughter's dance recitals. Need to go and get some lunch in me.

bosu stands for both sides up.

It's a half ball on a base, you exercise on it. Looks like the easy button from staples. You can use both sides as the base.

Rewiring !

Found some old installation left over from the last rewiring in the 1970s.
When British Standards were in two digit numbers.
When they used rubber insulation on the wires, and natural fibre covers, with twisted stiff wire.

I was putting in a new light fixture in the bathroom. The first thing I did wrong was not turn off the electricity. Second thing was probably using an aluminum ladder. There was no current coming through the wires to the fixture, so I got them rewired to the new fixture with no problem.

But then I started rescrewing the fixture back into the ceiling. Almost there only a couple more turns. The last turn managed to go through a main electrical feed line....:aureola:

Things lit up like Christmas, but I was lucky to be using a rubber handled screw driver.

I hate when that happens. I made the mistake of trusting a friend who said power was off to two legs of a 220 line I was installing. While stripping the wires, I arced a pair and flew across a garage for my trouble. Took a nice divot out of a brand new pair of linesman pliers. I always have a meter in my toolkit and check the lines after I personally kill the breaker, just in case I have another senior moment.

Wondering how I should handle this new tripod I got from B&H....one of the tightening knobs was broken although I can still use it.....it just sucks to get something broken.

Mail order saves you money and/or taxes but returning anything is hell.

Just got back from my son's EOY concert, kid blows a mean trombone, Symphonic and jazz band sounded fantastic. Finished editing my daughters concert, she was brass player of the year for intermediate middle school band. It's fun in the all tile and hardwood floor house during practice time. The dog hates the trombone and my daughter's cat hates her trumpet. They both run to the middle of the house and try to hide under each other. Pretty funny stuff. Just finished a 19 hour day, I need a shower, bed and some serious sleep.

I'm compiling a new list of all the Salsa moves that I want to bring out when really dancing.

The courses are relatively easy, you just copy the teacher and the girl knows what's coming too so you don't have to give too much guidance. Out on the dancefloor the man has to decide what to do next, remember the move, guide the girl clearly, avoid the other couples - and look like he's having fun. I stick to the stuff I know well and I try to add other stuff progressively.

My Fuji F10 has been VERY useful. For the last 6 months I've been filming the courses with it - just a 20 second clip of the move at the end of the course. The high-ISO ability of the sensor means that my videos come out really well. I've put them up on my web site so that the others can see - which also means we got a network going between course members.

The videos are very useful for understanding and revision - I've put them on my Smartphone and I revise on the train. But for memorising, nothing beats text and paper, so I'm doing yet another version of my course notes to learn.

Hoping canon's trade up program will work with a current generation camera, and hoping that the trade up program continues (Last year, they had a program that let customers send them an old busted up camera in return for a huge discount on a newer camera)

My 2 week old A570IS is in worse shape than it looks after taking a nasty fall. The LCD wasnt even scratched...still had the protective plastic on it!

Spent all yesterday mastering DVD's of the concerts for reproduction and delivery. Have 3 dance recitals and 2 more concerts to shoot, edit, sell and reproduce this week alone. Glad the school year is coming to an end. Actually going to try and be lights out by 11 tonight instead of 1:30 AM like this morning. Wouldn't have been so bad were it not for the 5 AM daily wake up.

How do you take your coffee Adina? I'm a large, sorry, Venti, strong brew with a little room for cream and the pink stuff. I can't even repeat a multi syllable concoction in the morning, never mind drink one.

I was out once with my girls and I said "hey I'm just going to stop here and get a cup of coffee quick" So my oldest says "mom, I thought you didn't prefer coffee" And my youngest says "she doesn't. she prefers a nonfat banilla latte"

did I mention we have a good time when we are out? they are just soo funny, just their regular conversations sometimes strike me as laugh out loud funny.

I just dropped my dog off for an overnight to the vet. The poor thing is having her girl parts removed today. Then I have to shower and go to work, and I might go to the bookstore.

Spent the weekend shooting two 72 number, 5 hour each day dance recitals for my daughter's studio. I worked freelance for the production group who got the gig. I was going anyway, figured I might as well get paid for it. They hired a few still guys and one of them ended up usig my D200 and 70-200/2.8 VR.. Kind of hard to run a closeup cam, direct the other shooters and shoot stills at the same time. Gonna try and get some sleep tonight. Stayed up late after Deckcadet's graduation last night editing the end of year DVD for the department.

Trying to get over a summer cold. At least my allergies have simmered down, and my eyes aren't watering. Still feeling a little light-headed, but my sneezing has stopped.

Kenpo or Kempo, is a Japanese martial art that combines Karate, Jujitse, Chinese Kung Fu and some Aikijujitsu. It is both linear and circular, combining kicks, punches, throws and some grappling. The Okinawan form even includes an 11 weapon component into the system.

At least, that's what I've heard.

Just starting summer reading with my soon to be sixth grader. She pulled all straight A's in her first year of middle school and all classes were honors level. Not too shabby. She and I are going to try and put 10 - 15 miles on our bikes tomorrow. I've got to lose about 30 pounds to keep my daughter, wife and female doctor/friend of my wife off my back. I get up to 230 and half the women in my world are ready to strangle me. Going to check SCUBA gear tomorrow since we are teaching a class on Monday in my pool and then heading to Biscayne National Park for Tueaday and Wednesday.

Sitting here at 6:59am yawning. Thinking I should go back to bed to get some more rest but it's nice to be at the computer without the babies in front of me, climbing all over my desk lol

Going to bed, hopefully I'll be able to sleep tonight without problems. Have a young lady adn her dad coming over to learn how to SCUBA tomorrow. My first class as a newly minted instructor. Been teaching for awhile with my friend, first time official on my own..

I'm eating a juicy red d'anjou pear at my desk at work. I recently discovered that I like them better than apples because they're so juicy and the peal is very soft. Pears are underrated.

When I'm finished, I get to fold my brothers laundry. His washer will be delivered next week. Until then, he shows up here every other week. He says I can just throw it in a bag and he'll pick it up, but that bag of unfolded laundry would drive me crazy.

Dropping my 11.5 year old off at Jazz intensive dance camp and then coming home to trim more shrubbery. Have to get it all off the house and the boat. Actually have to sell the boat, so its kind of depressing. Also lining up another SCUBA class to teach next week.
