Hello all, tonight I was out shooting some low light and flash photos when this insect came into view. I only got a couple of chances at it, but this one came out fairly good. I think it is some kind of moth, but I didn't think moths sucked nectar. This one was very interested in the flowers blooming on top of our cabbages and kale. Any ideas?? Thanks,
Ken

Hey Ken,
I'm not positive, but it looks like a hummingbird moth to me.

Very cool, I finally get a chance to use my insect field guide. :) I almost forgot I had it.
The moth in your image looks exactly like the White-lined Sphinx in my Audubon Insect and Spider field guide. It looks very much like the hummingbird moth that Michael mentioned, they have the same body shape but the colors are different. Both moths sip nectar.
Great catch!

Thanx Michael and Copy_Kot, I'll look it up now that I have something to go on. I'm usually very disappointed with my ist DL's onboard flash...but I got very lucky with this one.
