I read somewhere that a NLE shoud have a noninterlace and interlace viewing option for video projects.

I am considering getting the Sony Trinitron Wega 24 in. CRT Color TV, FD Trinitron® WEGA® TV for $250. Although it is a 4:3 TV, it has a 16:9 settings with Component Video Input (Y/Pb/Pr). I would use the TV to preview SD projects and just use the computer monitor for HD projects.

Is it a waste of money?

I'll only have one 19" LCD for the workstation. Is it best to have a dual monitor setup instead getting the TV for previewing?

Would you rather have a dual LCD computer setup or one LCD with a TV for previewing output?

If I had my choice, 2/LCD's to split the edit interface and bins, etc and a playback monitor to check out final output. If not, 19 or 21 inch LCD for the computer and a decent monitor ()TV) for the final check on output. Sorry about the delay getting back, I left the laptop at the office for a few days.

my dream setup is all three, that is what we used at uni and a preview monitor is really helpful for checking colour and the videosafe area.

I think I'll get a 19" or 20" widescreen computer monitor and the Sony TV for preview.

I'll be putting the other 19" 4:3 LCD on the other computer but if I don't see myself ever using the other computer then I'll combine it all in one workstation.

Or you could do what I do and run the video out through your camcorder to your tv. Firewire to the camera and analog to the TV. Dual monitors are great for editing. Once you have it, they'll have to pry your second monitor out of your cold dead fingers.

I'll be getting a ADS Pyro API555 to output SD via firewire into a SD TV. It serves other purposes and I'll get a copy of Premier Elements as well.

I was able to do what RSIMMONS recommended but I my best output on the little video camera is s-video. I'd like to use the component inpout on the Sony I'm getting.
