Was sitting in the dark having a drink (Jack Daniels Single Barrel, HIGHLY recommended) and doing some reading online. The glass was was catching some interesting light so decided to take a few shots. (Few means I was farting around with it for an hour or so during which time there were couple refills so be gentle :blush2: ...LOL)

I like these kind of shots and have fooled around with them a bit, too.
I can't decide if the glass alone is ok or if it needs something extra to add to the ambviance,(I hate that word).
Some sort of light needs to be added to bring out the sparkle of the drink though.
Better experts than I will probably give you some hints as to what that might be.

I thought about adding something else for the shadow to fall across. Unfortunately, I didn't have any other lights handy and was just using the light from my laptop for this shot which didn't carry the shadow enough. The JD is good stuff though so I might have to... ahem... "experiment" with this some more another night...LOL

I like the simplicity of this shot. I'm wondering though how this would look as a color photo instead of b&w. Soft lighting and a bit of color from the drink...might be worth a try when you experiment with this next time! :D

Hmmm...I think honestly, if you cropped the right side about 2 inches, I'd like the color version better.

But that might just be personal preference! :)

Let's see, maybe a little something like this then? I do like the way it looks, just preference wise I tend to strongly favor b&w, even to a fault at times :(

Welcome to the forum. I like this simple set up and also the effective use of negative space. Good composition. I also prefer the color version best as well. The glass could use to be sharper, though. The crop can work, but not quite so much
btw, this also may look better with some Walker Black Label in the glass :D

I agree with trog on this one... as well as GB regarding the sharpness...

What i would add is, i would have preferred to see the glass not centered vertically... other than that i think it really works nice....

Now, since we are trying to get this thing better, i believe some single malt is what would work best in color :D:D maybe some Lagavulin 16, but that's a metter of "palet" (can't be bothered to remember how to write the word...) and taste...

I agree it needs sharpened and the color version works best, You can tell it's a shot of whiskey and not water. I also feel it works because the lighting fades to black as your eye moves right.

I agree that a single malt would have been better for this test. Might have to use some of that tonight. Maybe some Oban or Cragganmore. However, don't underestimate the quality of the JD Single Barrel. It is far from your normal bourbon ;)
