Well, I've been having issues with my D70 the past few weeks. It rarely ever gets used anymore since I got my D2h.

I've noticed in the past few weeks most of the time when I put in a CF card, the camera tells me to format it. So I do the in camera format, which most of the time works. After its formatted it works fine, until I turn the camera off, then turn it on and says it needs to be formatted again. I've tried multiple cards with the same stuff happening, and they all work perfectly with my D2h.

To make it more fun, before formatting a card, I'll pull it out while the camera is on, put it back in, and the camera reads it fine :(

Now I'm wondering if I should try to send it in, see how much it would be to get it fixed, or go buy either a second D2h or a new D200 w/battery grip. I shoot 80% sports, so I need the fast fps and buffer size.

Anyone else had this problem with their D70?

Never heard of that one... I'm assuming it's out of warranty but call Nikon and find out what they would guess it might cost to be fixed. I don't know that this is really a big deal for a backup camera, but maybe it's a sign of something else happening to it that would be a problem. Before you spend a lot of money for a repair, check to see what used ones have been selling for - you wouldn't want to pay more for a repair than it's worth.

I agree with Steve. Get an estimate first. If it's not too high, have it fixed. Otherwise, look at getting a D50 (Lava Lamp swears they're better than the D70) or go ahead and upgrade to the D200 if you have the means.
