Hi all .. I am seriously lusting after the K10D (maybe for my birthday!). However, the Samsung GX10 seems, on the face of it, to be precisely the same camera, except for a lower price tag. Reviews I have read put them equal too, implying that they have both the same specs and the same imaging engine. The only difference SEEMS to be a slightly different body shape.

Does anyone know for certain if they really are the same?

They are quite similar. There are some slight differences in terms of the menu interface, but for all intent and purpose, you could use both with similar results. The samsung lenses are basically Hoya/Pentax. The firmware updates are a bit slower in coming out to the public..

An interesting question - especially since I am supposed to have both cameras being shipped for review right now. We will see :)

Thanks PJ - I will look forward to that. For instance the K10D is supposed to have an extremely robust build quality including dust and moisture seals on all buttons and dials. Even if the cameras were mechanically the same, I wonder if the GX10 is put together with the same level of bomb-proofing?

i hear the pentax has a new firmware? some new added features like wireless flash and such... wonder if samsung recieved it also...

It looks like I will have one of these beauties very soon. This is the dilemma: The K10D retails around here for £699 including the standard zoom. But I can get the GX10 for £599 including BOTH standard zoom AND a 50-200mm. Something inside tells me to trust the Pentax - but the difference in value is pretty high considering that these are virtually identical. I'll post when I make my decision.
