After using the Pentax K10D for a client this weekend "Issue One" magazine, I can say unequivocally the the K10D is and can be used for Pro application without reservation.

I shot in studio for two days. I shot over 12 Giga of images for this 12 page story. I am using two bodies, rotating them between clothing changes. I generally work on interior locations or studio.

Look I have been doing this for 25 years. The Pentax K10D is on par or better than all of the 10.2 mega pixel camera's out there. In fact considering that 90 percent of my images that I shoot are for magazine publication, 6 megas pixels would suffice.

I am quite certain that the OP is quite correct. The Pentax is undoubtedly suitable for some types of professional work. So is a Rebel XTi or Nikon D80.

You don't need weather proofing or a high frame rate for studio work, just high image quality. All of the modern digital SLR bodies deliver the goods in this regard.

So then does it come down to lens quality?
Or once you go beyond image quality does the character of the image matter?
Or in the end can every system deliver that, and comes down to usability?

I started out on Zenit and them moved to Pentax because of the 42mm thread lenses I already had ...

This is going off on an interesting tangent. What does make a camera suitable for professional work? I'm going to start a new thread on the Digital SLR forum. I have cameras at both ends of the spectrum and am having a hard time determining what actually makes one camera generally more suitable than the other.
