Anna's Hummingbird Calypte anna is the only U.S.hummingbird with a red crown!!

Common in open woods, chaparral and flower gardens. Larger and sturdier than a Black-chinned with a relatively short bill. (Close observation of this photo will reveal a slightly protruding tongue)

Voice: Feeding note is is a "chick" or "stit". When courting a female, the male makes a "pendulum display", a huge aerial diving arc past the female, making a popping sound at the bottom of the arc.

Nice image, but the usual image of them has a different lighting angle showing of the brilliance of the gorget.
