It's been a while since I have post here on the N&W forum so be kind. I guess it is being lazy as much as anything or maybe a real dread of getting cold as I get older. While I know this image isn't up to the standard of you true birders I was pleased to get it Sunday. I looked out in my back yard Sunday during a small snow storm and spotted a dozen of so Cardinals sitting in bushes and on the ground. While they didn't stick around long once I came on the scene I did manage one that I can post.
While your at it you might ID this other guy for me.

Hey OT,
Nice pics...cardinals are a lot of fun when you get a sharp capture like that...
I believe your other visitor is a female downy woodpecker.
Cheers,
Randy.

Nice shots OT. And I agree with the ID of it being a Downy.... although I think we're all waiting on Paul for confirmation =P

female downy it is. OT, I have yet to get a great image of a cardinal, so don't feel like your isn't good.
Nice to see you posting again, your images are always interesting OT and these are no exception, i would love to have cardinals in my garden, and to look out of my window to see a woodpecker of any kind would make me smile!

Thank you Bevb for your kind remarks. This past Sunday morning was cold and snowy but the birds didn't seem to care. The yard was full of Cardinals, Jays, Chickadees, Wrens and even a couple of Woodpeckers as I documented. The big surprise to me was the Robin that I saw flitting around in the snow. They are not usually around till around March. We've had a very mild winter up till this time and it seemed this guy decided to stay north for the season.

Nice to have you posting here indeed
I know what you mean about the cold. I have to force myself to venture out in this stuff. We finally got snow about 2 weeks ago. Not much more snow since then but coooold.
I had snow built up on the inside of my lens hood:(
Hope to see more of your work here.

Thanks Loupey nice to be back. Since taking over the gallery mod job it seems to take up a lot of my PR time.

I love the cardinal no matter what time of year. They are brilliant in color and it sure makes up for the dark color of winter bare tress. I hope you will go on and add more. A beautiful bird is just that....BEAUTIFUL
