I'm looking for a hood for my 50mm f/1.4 and all KEH has is the rubber one.

Is that the only one or is there another?

If it's the only one, how do users like it?

Thanks,

~ nic

Welcome to the Forum Nic.

I don't have that lens, so I can't comment on how a hood works on it. I did find this hood at B&H tho (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=295&A=details&Q=&sku=37623&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation). It doesn't say what it's made out of, but it looks like plastic. That's what all my other Canon hoods are made from. If that's not what you're looking for, you can get pretty inexpensive metal hoods that screw onto the filter threads on the front of your lens.

I have the 50 f1.4 AF (not AF-D) and have a metal hood for it. Nikon has made about a thousand different hoods for 50mm primes... This one has a quick release that sort of bends the threads so you can snap it on, then give it about 1/4 turn to lock it in - pretty slick. Looks kind of like the one that Michael linked. I'll let you know what the number is of it tonight. I like the metal or hard plastic hoods because they give the front lens element some protection which the rubber one obviously doesn't.

...The hood I have is a Nikon HS-9...

Oops, I didn't even notice that this was in the Nikon forum when I made my original post. I guess the link I had to the Caon hood wouldn't be of much help. I edited that post to include the link to the HS-9 hood that Steve mentioned.

...was wondering what you were doing over here - or if maybe you were trying to tell us something?

Hey Nic,

I have a rubber lens hood on my 50mm f1.4 and I love it. Nikon makes metal hoods and I'm sure there are plastic ones as well. B&H would be my first stop looking for one, but be sure to check out Adorama and KEH as well.
