I'm surprised that no one has commented on this photo yet. I found it very refreshing to have a boxing image displayed here on the forum. I commented on it over on the gallery but will say once again that I liked this image. I loved the concentration and intensity of aggressor in this image. Compositionally the outstretched arm and the parallel rope complement each other well and the blur of the glove conveys a real sense of speed and power in the punch. Nice job.

I don't follow any "rules" of photography, and it would be kind of hard for me to do that seeing as though I don't have any formal training/ education with a camera. I pick up tidbits here and there, but it's mainly trial, error and paying attention to EXIF information where I learn the most. As far as composition goes, I just try and go with what looks good to me, or in a case like this, take the opportunities I'm given.

In sports photography I think that is pretty standard. You do the best you can to position yourself properly and have the best idea you can what action will unfold in front of you and take your chances from there.

Don't worry too much about the "rules" of photography. I think they are really worthless myself for sports for the most part. I think sports needs more out of the box shooters, and fewer by the book shooters as sports photography gets boring seeing the same old thing all the time. As long as you get the correct exposure and a shot you like and someone else likes, don't worry about the rules too much.

As for taking what you get, there again is one of the challenges of sports, boxing and wrestling are difficult to shoot as you are often limited to your movement to get those good shots. I had a lousy night tonight shooting HS wrestling, and got 5 shots worth sending in because I couldn't get to the other three sides of the mat to shoot. That makes for a rough night. The writer had a better angle than I did tonight.

You have a nice start here, the only thing I think you should do is get tighter on the subjects or crop out the excess.

I'd have commented sooner but it has been a busy week and a half between shooting, working on my truck and trying to get a garage built......yawn....I'm beat!

To me, having never shot any boxing, this seems like one of the toughest sports to get good photos of. Limited movement of the photographer and almost constant movement of the "victims". Great shot!

Psyched to see this here! It's a great photo. I love the expression on the left boxer's face. Looks like he's giving it his all - but you can see that bit of apprehension because he's taking a chance by leaving himself open. Nice catch. Great exposure, too.

I used to have my gallery displaying the EXIF data, don't really know why that is gone now.. must be something with the latest Jalbum software settings I used...
Anyway, I used a Canon 20D with a Canon 24-70 lens for those images, most on 1/250 - 2.8 ISO 400. Bought a 5D last week, which I think will be huge improvement on the crop factor 20D. Can't wait to shoot the next match!
