Today was my first day back to work since before Christmas. What I found on my desk this morning when I got to work, was a contract for me to look over, and sign. The contract was for the use of one of my photos for the cover of one of my companies catologs. The contract was pretty vague, and didn't even have the name of the photo listed, so I had no idea what picture they had chosen. I did a little research at work, and found out what image they are using, and also saw a layout of the cover. They picked 4 photos, from 4 different employees for the cover, so each one gets a corner.

The CD of images I gave them to look at were all low res, 400x600 pixels, and that's what they are printing from. I had no idea they had chosen one of my images, and they never asked for a high res version. Because it's going to press tomorrow, there isn't time for them to do anything with the high res image. I hope the low res prints out OK...

This isn't a shot I would have chosen, but I guess if they like it, who am I to say. :) Anyway, here is the photo they chose. If anyone get's the Lands' End Overstock catalog, you should be getting the book with my photo sometime around the 27th of this month.

Very cool honor Michael...I love that you told us all the details (those are often my favorite part). I think the picture is beautiful..its different..and thats what counts. Congratulations.

I'm with you, I don't think I would have chosen that particular shot. As a photographer, the bird looks funny (almost distorted) to me. I know it is the angle and how the bird is approaching the berries. On the other hand, it is an unusual shot, not the kind of bird shot you see every day, and maybe that was what appealled to them.

Regardless, congratulations on being published buddy!

Thanks Steve. Yes, this is my second catalog cover. I have visited this same tree many times since I took this shot back in 2005, but there haven't been any berries on it since then. I don't know what kind they are, but I will try to look them up when I get a chance.

Way to go Michael. I know that this isn't a first for you but still is exciting. Looking forward to getting the catalog so I can brag to my friends that I know the guy that took that picture.

I did some checking, and I think this berries are from a mountain-ash tree. I'm not sure about the exact species tho. It could be an American or European mountain ash tree.
