View Full Version : Hello and Happy New Year
Charles Hess 01-06-2007, 11:56 AM Although a stranger to many of you, I want to wish all those who might remember me and to those don't, a happy and prosperous New Year. Life continues on for me, still with physical woes but with a renewed vigor for street photography, shooting more now than I have in the past few years. Though I've embraced the digital world (D200), my main passion remains with film, my Leica M6 and trusty Contax G2.
I've followed a number of threads as a lurker, have enjoyed the tremendous improvement in the skills of so many here, and have felt like a part of the community even as an outsider.
I hope to pop back on here again, so if I'm welcome, coming back to the fold would be really great.
Still no professional site, but old and new stuff of mine is on www.pbase.com/charles_hess if you'd care to look. Take care.
walterick 01-06-2007, 02:34 PM Charles! It's great to hear from you my friend. Happy New Year to you!
It's always a pleasure to see your work, both street and glamour. I'm sorry to hear about your plaguing health problems, but I'm encouraged by the sound of your newfound passion. All the best my friend, and I hope to see you around again soon.
Rick

Charles Hess 01-06-2007, 03:19 PM Hi guys, thanks for the hello and welcome. I hope to be hanging around here again. Brian...I'm sure you are enjoying your Bessa! Any news on Liz? I didn't see any recent threads from her, and I didn't get a response to an email awhile ago, hope she's OK.
Old Timer 01-06-2007, 04:30 PM Hey Charles nice to hear from you again. You were an inspiration to me in my early lurking days here a PR. I still try to check in at your Pbase site every once in a while to see what's going on. Liz was forced into a move and has not been on PR the last month or so very frequently but is still active with the community. Her street photos are improving with each of her post. Hope she sees this thread and check in with you. Welcome back.
Welcom Charles, I also have trouble finding the time to come to this wornderful place with just the regular rythms of life keeping me away from my free time We miss you and your work and hope to see you back on a regular basis.
megan 01-07-2007, 06:50 AM You are welcome! And happy new year!
DaveLC2 01-07-2007, 07:37 AM Sorry to hear about your health problems. I am new to this site and everyone here. I checked out your site and I got say I love your work. You made me realize that I need to start talking pictures of people in addition to animals and landscape. I hope you get better and have a great year.
Dave
Charles Hess 01-07-2007, 08:43 AM Thanks again, everyone. I'll see you in the forums!
adina 01-07-2007, 03:45 PM Charles! Hello!
Nice to see a post from you, how's the musuem treating you?
ps...I turn 30 in eleven months, I'm coming to see you when I do :)
Charles Hess 01-08-2007, 01:04 PM Hi Adina...your photos have been really amazing in the past months (I'm a good lurker). Are you serious about coming to Philly? Make sure you email so you can be treated royally! Speaking of royalty, the museum gets to host Prince Charles in a few weeks, so work is still going well. Keep in touch. :-)
Speed 01-08-2007, 01:38 PM Hello Charles! It's great to see you back on the forums again!
Can't wait to see what you've been shooting lately.
another view 01-08-2007, 01:52 PM Charles?! How did I miss this? Good to hear from you, and glad to see you're still out there shooting.
Speed 01-08-2007, 01:55 PM "I'm coming to see you when I do" :)
Ohhhh, so THAT's how it is!
OK, photogathering in Philly in 11 months...
;-)
mjs1973 01-08-2007, 02:01 PM Welcome back Charles!! It's great to see you posting again. The wife and I took the Pentax P&S you gave me a couple years ago to Jamaica over the new year and ran a couple rolls of film through it. I think of you everytime I use it. :) I can't wait to check out the work you have posted on pbase. Happy New Year and all the best in 2007!
Charles Hess 01-08-2007, 03:33 PM Wow, thanks for the welcome back. That would be great if Adina would make it to Philly in 11 months, as I'm sure a lot of you guys would be sure to follow, lol!
walterick 01-08-2007, 05:45 PM I'll hold the reflector ;)
Speed 01-09-2007, 04:25 AM I'll hold the reflector ;)
I heard that Charles was looking for a couple of aprentices!
;-)
Speed 01-09-2007, 04:28 AM It would look like Philly got invaded - by photographers!
So, do you need an aprentice? Looking for an intern? Need help holding the reflectors?
:-D
adina 01-09-2007, 08:28 AM Hi Adina...your photos have been really amazing in the past months (I'm a good lurker). Are you serious about coming to Philly? Make sure you email so you can be treated royally! Speaking of royalty, the museum gets to host Prince Charles in a few weeks, so work is still going well. Keep in touch. :-)
Hey thanks!
Yes, seriously coming to Philly. As long as you can squeeze me in! It will probably be early December...
How cool you're hosting Prince Charles! Am I correct in remember that you're the go to guy there? So you get to meet him? That's really neat!
racingpinarello 01-09-2007, 09:48 AM Hey Charles!!!
Happy new year to you, and I hope that 2007 brings you better health. It's nice to see one of the long timers come back.
I look forward to seeing some of your new street photos and welcome back.
Loren
Charles Hess 01-09-2007, 12:07 PM Loren...good to see that you are still a part of the site. Your work looks fantastic. Adina, I would be honored to have you and family be my guests at the center. Yeah, I'm one of the 'big wheels' at work, though I always feel like a blue collar guy being forced to wear a white one. I'll get to meet the Prince, but it's actually not so much a big deal anymore with the steady parade of politicos and celebs that come through the doors. Early October, we had Bush, Clinton, and Bon Jovi here at one time for an award ceremony, Barbra Streisand strolled in with hubby James Brolin awhile back, our Governor is here a few times a week, Sen. John McCain was here a few weeks ago, and you name 'em, they've been here. :-) Keep me posted as the time draws nearer.
PhotoGirl 01-10-2007, 05:12 PM Hi Charles,
I visited your gallery--amazing work!!
Especially, The American Tragedy theme, it was very touching and inspiring.
I_Fly 01-10-2007, 08:12 PM Hi Charles,
It's good to see that your issues aren't stopping your photography. I always enjoy seeing your portraits. They are an inspiration to me, as I feel lacking in my portrait taking skills. I hope to see more posts from you soon!
May your New Year be a great one!
