hi everyone. i'm trying to update the firmware on my e300. and whenever i try to connect to the server i have a message saying failed to communicate to server. i really think that a firmware update for my lenses and camera would hellp alot. but i'm having problems getting there. can anyone suggest anything? p.s i'm running a mac osx.

I get that error every time I try to update any Olympus firmware or software over a dialup internet connection. I have to use a computer hooked to a broadband connection to update my camera's firmware.

The fact that you are on a Mac should not have any bearing on your ability to update your firmware, but just to be certain you may want to try it on a PC. Otherwise the only recourse left to you is to contact Olympus.

Firmware updating doesn't work on Intel Macs, but I don't believe it even gets as far as trying to download it from Olympus.

I've had no problems updating my firmware for my E-1s using wireless, broadband, intel Macs. I followed the directions exactly and everything worked just fine.

I had a similar problem the first few times I tried updating the firmware. So I rebooted and tried my wifes P&S camera first.. updated her software without a hitch. Then I did mine and it worked just fine. I wonder if it depoends on the tiem of day vs internet traffic.

The release notes on the Olympus web site indicate firmware updating does not work on Intel Macs. The Update Camera command in Olympus Master 1.42 on my Core Duo iMac doesn't even see my camera.
