Do you normally? I always get myself something, nothing super exciting, but something. This year, I'm looking at the Stonewall kitchen cookbooks (I've got a good dozen cookbooks, but I just love them, even if I don't cook that frequently right now) and on Wednesday day I'm going in for an hour long spa pedicure. When I called, I specifically asked for the one where they massage your feet for a while, as mine have been really sore (my own fault, poor footwear choices, but what are you going to do). And Wednesday is perfect, as Tuesday is my last day of work.

Tuesday is my last day of work.

That could be a nice present in itself...! Hopefully it's for all the right reasons.

Yes, busted, I did buy something for myself last night. It wasn't really an impulse buy because it was something I've been trying to find for awhile (music stuff, not exciting for most of you). I didn't really think of it as a Christmas present but it cuts into the finances that pay for other Christmas gifts so I guess that's what it is.

It won't be here for me for Christmas, but the wife approved of me getting the Sigma 120-300 F2.8 lens in the next few months.

I'm usually really particular on what items I want for Christmas, so I usually go and get the big ticket items myself, and I have a list of smaller items that people can get me.

I've ordered a 2gb SD card, a 2gb thumbdrive, and a computer TV tuner card...on the bright side...after rebates, they'll only end up costing me about $30 total.

I have made suggestions to people that a new external hard drive for image storage would be nice. But I think I will end up buying it for myself and I guess that I will call it a Christmas present.

I was looking at those this morning! Not that I'd ever do anything with with them...

Last day of work because I had finished all my sessions for the year, I was supposed to have my last viewing appt yesterday, but she forgot, now I'm going out again tomorrow. I usually spend the first week in December wrapping everything up, then don't schedule anymore till January. It's my own Christmas break.

I always manage to sneak a few things in

What's funny is when I'm buying things for other people, it seems not as bad to buy things for myself at the same time. So in my mind it's not as bad to throw something in the basket for myself around Christmas time :D

Why not? Just curious. Do you prefer available light?

I usually get myself something, because I hate shopping and that's how I cope. But this year I think I'm getting everything I want from other people. Lucky me. :D

I already bought and set up my gift to myself. I couldn't wait for xmas. I got a 50-500 Sigma lens for my olympus E500 ... only to blow the body 20 shots into my day. Should hear back from the repair shop by the end of next week at the latest as they guaranteed return before christmas....not holding my breath....because I dropped it in before their nov 13 deadline for christmas returns. They've had the body since Nov 3rd so one would think that by now they should have had time to evaluate and repair or replace by now.

I'm spending my inheritance....early, way early (I hope).
3 1/2 truck loads of gravel
renting a backhoe
a couple semi truck loads of wood, metal, cement, drainage pipe, wire, electrical stuff and so on
ultimately I will end up with a 32x40 foot garage, which will be bigger than my house!
the only problem is I have to put it all together  .... I can handle the electrical end, just never been able to cut a straight line with a saw

Adina's one of those girls who likes to keep it simple. One pair of shoes, worn everywhere. The notion of her owning a pair of shoes which would only be worn on Christmas day is ridiculous, to say the least! I would guess Adina might feel insulted by an insinuation as insidious as this...

I don't normally, but this year I am!
I am getting a new camera! Brand New!
As you may recall, I sold my Nikon gear, to purchase the new camera.
This will be the first brand new camera I have had since my forst camera, some 22 plus years ago!

No intent to impugn. I'm the one with the shoe problem. By the way, they're red.

Oh, and I did buy the new Annie Leibovitz book, "A Photograper's Life:1990-2005".

Not that it's really a Christmas thing, but I'm getting four great toys for myself in the next couple of weeks. And they all serve different needs...

One is business related: the AlienBees Ringflash (http://www.alienbees.com/abr800.html). My old ringflash is a dinosaur and not really compatible with my DSLRs. The AB unit seems well-made, has all the features I want, and is a great value.

I also ordered a new turntable from Amazon.com, an Audio-Technica AT-PL120. A "turntable" is one of those contraptions that plays those really large black vinyl music discs that were real popular many years ago before we had CDs and mp3s... :p

Anyway, I still have close to a couple of thousand record albums, and I figure it's about time I started listening to some of this music again, especially now that I have an iPod and can transfer what I want to my pc. I expect to enjoy the best of both worlds...

My other two toys are, well...cool toys. One is a handheld voice changer from the National Geographic Store. It lets you sound like an alien, a robot, that sort of thing. Too cool. I'll probably keep it by the phone and use it on telemarketers... :D

Finally, a toy I've been meaning to get for a long time now: the radio-controlled walking tarantula. If I have to explain why I need one of these, then you obviously don't know me. I just wish they had these years ago, back in my more mischievous days.

Suffice to say it is a must have... :yikes:

OOOHhhh! I was looking for red Christmas shoes. The ones I'm trying to find are red patent leather ballet flats by Steve Madden. Could only find the heels when I was out, and I was looking for something more casual.

We should have a Christmas shoe thread....

If Santa Wife falls for the D200, I just might go for a Tokina 12-24 or the 100mm 2.8 macro that they came out with. Of coursre I'd have to sell the D70 and hope she forgets abouit the money for the sale. No fun shooting in a small studio with the 80-200, the darn wall keeps getting in the way. A faculty/student version of CS2 might be on the list also.

Too much work and only getting done teaching and being a dad late at night. Been working on learning a few new platforms so that I can teach my students some basic lightwave and DVD authoring next semester. I did get a full day of seminars January 20 at the Palm Beach Photo Centre. Photographing kids with Ross Whitaker, Portraits with Harrison Funk and Close up work with Rick Sammon. No word on the D200 request yet, may have to wait for my 25th anniversary on January 15. Did you get the ring flash yet Steve, it looks pretty interesting for the make up add look.

i bought my dream machine computer for work (that felt like a christmas present as they said to me at the christmas party "buy whatever you want we trust you") I have a list of things i will probably get in the next couple of weeks during the january sales. I would have bought them before christmas but i sort of hinted i wanted them then waited to see if anyone took the bait. still santa was very kind to me.
