Hi, I'm learning to use an old Canon T70 film SLR. The thing is, I want to use a mode that would be the equivelent of the Av mode I usually use with my Powershot S3. The T70 has a Tv shutter speed priority mode, but no Av.
Here are the modes for Canon T70: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_T70#Exposure_modes
Will the pictures turn out over-exposed if I use Tele Program AE, and even though it suggests for example f/5.6, I use f/1.4. Will the camera know how to adjust the shutter speed automatically?
I tried reading the manual, but it's starting to seem as if Manual -mode is the way to go if I want to control the aperture.

TIA

To be honest, Av mode on a small camera is generally useless. As the lens focal lengths are very short, the DOF is always large making the advantage of Av on a DSLR not available on a compact camera.
You can do what users of the very old Yashica film cameras used to do: adjust the shutter speed using Tv until the camera sets the aperture you are looking for.

For most (all?) AE modes to work, you'll need to put the lens on A. If you monkey with the lens aperture, you WILL get under/overexposed pics.
As the other chap points out, the best you can do is shoot TV mode and fiddle with the shutter speed until the camera poops out the aperture you want. Also try the wide/zoom AE modes - they may run 'close enough' to the DOF you have in mind.
Reading the manual the T70 apparently doesn't do "AE Stopped down" with FD lenses. There is no mechanism to stop down the iris. The T70 is a nice camera, it's a shame Canon left out several key exposure modes. I you think you'll be shooting film for a while longer, you could always grab a cheap A-1 off KEH or "That auction site."
