Having recently registered my photography business, I no longer qualify as an amateur. For those without that restriction, here's a photo contest for you to enter.

I'd love to see someone from PR win this!

Thanks for the link Speed. I spent some time at a NC preserve this past spring. I will have to go through my pics and see if anything looks competition worthy. I better go read the fine print first tho. :)

Speed,
Is nature photography your full time gig? Here is how the NC difines an amature for this contest:
By amateur photographer, we mean any beginning, amateur, or experienced photographers who do not receive a significant part of their income from nature photography.

The definition of "amateur" varies considerably. There are some prominent contests which will allow amateur status as long as your income from photography is less than 50% of your total.
A lot of accounting "methods" to ensure a 49% rating if that is one's intention :)

"Is nature photography your full time gig?"
Only in my dreams...
I'm an endendured servant of Carteret County.
"photographers who do not receive a significant part of their income from nature photography"
Well in that case, I definitely qualify!!!!!
Photography accounted for about 2% of what I made this year!
On second thought, ignore this post. The Nature Conservancy does NOT have a photo contest going on...

Apparently.
"A lot of accounting "methods" to ensure a 49% rating if that is one's intention."
I don't have to use any "methods". Photography generated about 2% of what I made this year. I WISH it was higher...

I'll second that!!!

LOL!
Have you gone to the Flikr (http://www.flickr.com/groups/thenatureconservancy/) site to see all the photos that have been entered so far? I looked through quite a few of them at work today. There are some really nice photos on there, but I wan't impressed with the vast majority of them. The pics by Jim Dolla (http://www.outlandspress.com/op/index.asp)r really blew me away tho.
There a little over 5000 photos uploaded to the gallery and most of them are for the Best Nature part of the contest. There were only a little over 300 entered for the Best from the NC Preserve category. So if you want to improve your chances, get to a preserve and start shooting. :)

I see alot of mediocre images, but wow some are very impressive!
I also had a look on the site, and posted some pics, but its a shame that no others other than US citizens can entre the competition!!
and i agree Paulnj, some happy snaps, and some very impressive shots but i suppose thats shows where we all start from.
