View Full Version : Can you pass the 3rd grade? mjs1973 11-02-2006, 11:37 AM Someone sent this link to me at work yesterday. It took me a few tries, but I eventually made it to the 4th grade. :) http://www.pibmug.com/files/map_test.swf another view 11-02-2006, 11:50 AM Got it! One cool thing about road trips is relating to a lot of those states by having been thru them, at least. I did try to put New Hampshire and Vermont backwards but still had enough time to fix that. It's a hassle trying to cross those states from east to west so that's my excuse. Oh, it doesn't recognize the UP as part of Michigan. I guess that might be true for some residents too... mjs1973 11-02-2006, 11:56 AM I noticed the UP thing too. Maybe it's been anexed by Canada. :) walterick 11-02-2006, 03:11 PM Took me 2 times. Fitting some of those New England states in is hard! Like you Steve, my travels and fascination with the geography of this country helped me out :) another view 11-02-2006, 03:33 PM I noticed the UP thing too. Maybe it's been anexed by Canada. :) There's an interesting thought. I've never been to Alaska but read a lot about it and seen tons of pictures. Probably won't make it there until I can do it for at least a couple weeks (when will that happen?). I think the UP is probably the only thing close to it, and it's within a day's drive. I wish it wasn't so far away but on the other hand if it were closer (to here, Chicago, Milwaukee, etc) it wouldn't be anything like what it is today... walterick 11-02-2006, 03:42 PM Okay, I'm ready, where's the fourth grade? Asylum Steve 11-03-2006, 04:40 AM Took me two times to get it right, but the first time I didn't realize we were being timed. But, to be honest, everything but the east and west coasts (and, of course, Texas and Illinois) was trial and error... :D mwfanelli 11-03-2006, 07:27 AM All Hail Me! First time, all states identified correctly. I am the King of Third Grade! Asylum Steve 11-03-2006, 08:37 AM All Hail Me! First time, all states identified correctly. I am the King of Third Grade! Michael, just wait for the tests that take us beyond planet Earth! You should leave us all in the cosmic dust! BTW, saw where they approved the Hubble repair project. Any thoughts??? SmartWombat 11-03-2006, 12:06 PM Is it possible to pass? I score 48 out of 48 and still I fail ! Does it know I'm a foreigner? Is there a bug? Becuase when I put Massachusets where it belongs there's one green one left ... walterick 11-03-2006, 12:45 PM I only got 14 states right Can I guess? California Texas New York Florida Maine Oregon Washington Nevada Louisana North Carolina South Carolina Arizona New Mexico Massachusettes? SmartWombat 11-03-2006, 02:24 PM Texas, Oklahoma, Washington, Maryland, California, Oregon, Florida, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, New Jersey, New Mexico, utah, Ohio, Connecticut A strange list I know. Who doesn't know the shape of Texas from the Ti logo on a chip? Oregon - form balsa model airplanes I thought Bend was an instruction (!) and eventually found out the Bend Oregon on teh tail was where it was made :) Then I wanted to know why they misspelt Origin... Maryland - ex-in-laws in Baltimore (are they out-laws?) Florida - been there on holiday (mouse worship) California - conference in san Diego Washington - conference at Microsoft (one Microsoft way is not just the address) Oklahoma - remembered a film on the dust bowl and the "no Okies here" signs Wyoming - friend lives there in the middle of nowhere (nearest town pop 18) Pennsylvania - friend lives there New Jersey - friends lived there (which exit?) New Mexico - Angie used to live there Ohio - friends live there Connecticut - friends live there Utah - friends live there Ronnoco 11-03-2006, 04:10 PM Third try and 25 out of 48! Not bad for a NON american! Ronnoco walterick 11-03-2006, 04:39 PM Paul, you really have a lot of ties to the US! I assumed most non-natives know California, Texas, and Florida, because their shapes are unique and they all carry some noteriety. Other places like New York and Washington, DC are famous, but I don't know how geographically recognizable they are? molaselake 11-04-2006, 10:16 AM Ohhh.....I suck. A lot. 16 out of 48 and then 19...and that's only because I got frustrated and started dropping them anywhere. SmartWombat 11-04-2006, 11:04 AM Paul, you really have a lot of ties to the US! I assumed most non-natives know California, Texas, and Florida, because their shapes are unique and they all carry some noteriety. Other places like New York and Washington, DC are famous, but I don't know how geographically recognizable they are? New York isn't a recognisable shape, but you're right about Florida, California, and Texas. I think most people wouldn't know which coast Washington is on, or that it's so far north. SmartWombat 11-04-2006, 11:06 AM Got it! One cool thing about road trips is relating to a lot of those states by having been thru them, at least. Me too, or having friends living there so I marked them on the map... Oh, it doesn't recognize the UP as part of Michigan. I guess that might be true for some residents too... Where cow tipping is a faroutite pastime ... I didn't think yoopers were part of Micigan either :) photo101 11-04-2006, 11:15 AM 48/48 first attempt. There is one that you have to place the countries of europe. These are fun. :) Geography was always one of my favorite subjects in school, hehe. photo101 11-04-2006, 11:17 AM \ Where cow tipping is a faroutite pastime ... I didn't think yoopers were part of Micigan either :) Michigan isnt the ONLY place cow-tipping has occured... :) SmartWombat 11-05-2006, 03:17 AM Paul, you really have a lot of ties to the US! Should add went to a conference in Phoenix, but it was a resort complex and we were effectively prisoners there. No way out to see anything, except on the shuttle to/from the airport. I much preferred the downtown conferences in San Diego, we got to see part of the town. walterick 11-05-2006, 06:30 AM There is one that you have to place the countries of europe. Can you post it? - beginning to twitch from geography test withdrawal - photo101 11-05-2006, 07:22 AM Can you post it? - beginning to twitch from geography test withdrawal - It was a while ago that I came across it. I will see if I can dig it up again. photo101 11-05-2006, 07:32 AM Well its not exactly the one that I found before but it is similar. There are a few other games as well. And no, they are not tailored to help you pass the 3rd grade. :o http://www.purposegames.com/geoquiz walterick 11-05-2006, 04:31 PM Wow, I really sucked at the Europe one! There are like twice as many countries in Europe as there were when I studied them! Thanks for the link, I feel much better now... another view 11-05-2006, 05:33 PM Ooh, not so good at the European countries... I was in England 14 years ago and that was my only trip to Europe. That's my excuse. Yeah... Did pretty well with the US capitals until I got to Frankfort. Learn something new every day, I guess... I won't give it away.:) zrfraser 11-06-2006, 04:27 PM I got 48/48 first try, but it still said I failed...darn no child left behind act. |
