Hey all,
I'm debating buying a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8. I've read that this lens is really sharp from f4 up, but the AF sometimes doesn't work and a lot of photogs had to send the lens back. Does anyone use this lens regularly? I shoot mostly glamour models and want a sharper lens than my Sigma 28-135mm f2.8-4.5, but don't have the bread to drop on a Canon L. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

I have the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR Di and I'm pretty sure it's my most used lens. I've been very, very happy with it. I shoot everything with it - from product photography, to landscapes, to sports. Although the auto focus isn't as fast or accurate as Canon's good lenses, it's very good and I have no complaints. I don't expect it to perform like my 70-200 f/2.8L in AI Servo mode. But I'm also not worried about missing shots when I set them up correctly. Go through my photos on the gallery and see which lenses I used. You'll see that I take tons with the Tamron. Here's an example:

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I'm interested as well. Trying to look into a mid-range f/2.8 zoom to replace my crappy sigma 28-80 kits lens. blech, I've had that for way too long. Obviously I won't be opting for L glass, since It costs at least 4 times as much as any other 3rd party zoom. My friend got the tamron 28-75 and actually returned it pretty quickly. He said the AF was pretty poor. I'd be needing it for sports, where I'd be using Al Servo. It's probably between that and the sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 aspherical ex. I'm leaning towards the sigma just because of the reviews I have read on it. Seems like a good lens. But again, I'd be interested in hearing other people's opinions.
