Okay, I can't find the answer to this but a friend asked me what the difference is between an EF and an EF-S lens. Anyone know the answer?

The EF-S lenses will only work on certain DSLR's. They sit back farther on the inside of the camera body, and on a full frame DSLR, or film SLR, the mirror will hit the back of the EF-S lens when it flips up.

Michael

Thanks for that, which explains why the 5D can't take the S lens.

So what does the S stand for? subterranean?

The 'S' stands for Short back focus.
