Hmmm... did you make it darker when you turn it into b+w ? on my lousy monitor, it looks like it is too dark. I can't see much of the second cow.

I like this pic(compositionally) as it is ---except I would burn out(completely) or dodge some of the other cow in the background so that the cows rather than the darkness in their bodies dominate the scene...here's my take I hopw you don't mind...:) super quick --excuse how bad it is done
I really like to look at your posting...you have a fresh feel to the way you see things and you are pretty much not afraid to try any shot--- cool

Hey Young Shooter,
I am not too sure if I prefer your original picture or the one retouched by Nathalie better but either way, this is a well composed shoot. I'd say that the picture is a bit too dark but I do not have the knowledge to tell you how to lighten it without washing out the black (your black on the picture is really black and that's something extremely important while shooting b&w).

I agree this shot is underexposed to the point where I'm not sure there's much you can do. There's just not enough detail in the dark to be able to pull it back out - PS is handy but it only works *small* miracles!
Did you choose your exposure settinging manually? Make sure when you read the meter you keep in mind things like that overly bright window in the background. Next time I'd suggest either moving in closer to get the window out of the frame. If thats impossible maybe block it with something (from the outside?) or just blow it out entirely and crop it down.
If you think you may have lost something when you nailed it down to B&W you should post up the original.

well originally the picture was color, but im starting to like b/w way better like my idol ansel adams, but i cant realy get it developed anywhere, im about to go shoot my cat, anywayz yes this is a dark picture but i like it b/c its like so bold and dark, the cow is the main focal point, i think this would be a good picture to hang in like a bathroom or something, honesly if u saw this picture hanging on the wall would u look closer to see whats going on, well thats how i saw it b4 i took it, how questionable it was, natalie its cool u did that i see what you mean but i was hopeing the cows would come out further but they seriously got shipped there that day so they were freaked out big time, anywayz thanks alot guys for the posts, happying shooting
