Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I've had my EOS Rebel 300D for four years now. I take a lot of pictures too and this weekend after running a half marathon in Philly and taking a lot of pictures, I was surprised to see that the last bunch of pictures that I took were dark at the bottom. It seemed like it was covered by a dark cloth. I tried different setting tonight and still the same. I hope, my camera is not broken.

What is the problem with my camera? I have something coming up this weekend and I need my camera to take pictures. Can somebody please help?

thanks,
Solrac

Can you post some pics? I just got my 300D back from Canon yesterday for the same type of problem. the bottom 2/3rd of my photos were black, the top 1/3 looked fine. When I took the lens off and tripped the shutter in bulb mode, I could see here was a part attached to the back of the mirror that wasn't flipping up with the mirror and covering the bottom 2/3rds of the sensor when I took a pic. I was able to flip that piece up with my finger and it fixed that problem, but my camera would no longer focus. I had to send it in to Canon. It cost me $205.79 to get it fixed, but it seems to be working fine now. Attached is an example of what the images I was getting. This isn't an actual image but I recreated the affect in PS just for a visual.

I didn't get any explanation as to what caused the problem, or what they did to fix it, so I have to call them today to find out.

Hi Michael,

That's exactly how my pictures look like. I'll have it serviced then. Thanks for your help.

Thanks,
Carlos

Looks like the AF mirror, or the shutter.
Either of those sticks it can product this effect.
Definitely time for a service.

I called Canon today to get an explanation for this problem, and what they did to repair it. They guy I talked to called it a "sub mirror" problem, and said that it is a standard repair. They replaced the entire mirror assembly. He also said that this could have also caused the focusing issues I was having.
