Hi Everyone

I Have Just Purchased The New A100 And I Already Love. I Am Thinking About Getting A 300mm So I Can Get Closer To My Grandson' Football Game . Does Anyone Have Any Suggestions, Sony, Wait Fro Zeiss, Sigma Or Other.

Thanks

Tommy

The Sony 300mm f/2.8 lens is actually a rebranded copy of the established Konica Minolta lens. That's an excellent, proven, pro quality lens. I would buy that lens over the Zeiss since pros have been using it for a long, long time. You might check ebay for a used Konica Minolta lens, too. It's possible that there may be some compatibility issues. But probably not. Sony isn't guaranteeing perfect compatibility with Konica Minolta lenses and accessories. But they do want them to work so that they can sell the new camera to current Konica Minolta SLR owners.

The 300mm f/2.8 (Minolta and Sony) will definitely work on your alpha. The longest lens I know of that Zeiss will be offering is 135mm so that is nowhere near the reach of a 300mm. I am sure the Zeiss 85 f/1.4 is going to be out of this world and I can't wait to see how the 16-80mm f/3.4-4.5 does. For me I already have 3 zooms and a prime and I am waiting for the Zeiss glass to come out before I decide on my next lens purchase.

You can actually check reviews on the pre-Sony, Konica Minolta lenses to get opinions on the Sony lenses. A lot of the high-end ones, like the 300mm f/2.8, have been around quite a while. The Zeiss lenses are the unknown. Not that I'm doubting them :)
