what do you guys know about the digital rebel XT, i have been looking at this camera very closley and i was wondering if it is right for me...this will be my first D-SLR camera and it will be used to shoot mountain biking (free-ride) and a couple of car races and fmx once a year...and pretty much anything else i can find.

this camera is withing my budget and i was wondering if it was the right camera for a begginer D-SLR camera. can you guys tell me the pros and cons of this camera?

oh, and i read the reviews, but it shows no "yes, this will work for you" replies, but they all look pretty good.

thanks alot,
Brian

edit: sorry not XTi, just XT

Brian-
If it fits your budget then it's the right thing to do. I believe Zachdank is using one and it's serving him pretty well. It's important to know that the camera doesn't take the pictures for you and you will need to learn some good technique. Motorsports and mountain biking aren't the easiest things to shoot. But with proper technique, practice, and the Rebel XT you should be able to take great pictures. The kit lens will be your biggest limit - especially for car racing and FMX. The first thing you should plan to buy is a telephoto lens. The best bet is the Canon 70-200 f/4L which costs about $600.

Here's a link to our pro review for the Rebel XT: http://www.photographyreview.com/sf-1/pid-23942030/productproreviewcrx.aspx

By the way, I just got the Digital Rebel XTi and I think it's going to replace my EOS 10D. In my opinion, smaller and lighter is better. And I think the Rebel XT has pretty much all the features you really need. It may not be the Ferrari of digital cameras. But it will get the job done.

i just read your thread about the XTi and the pictures are very nice, amazing clarity.

i will check out some of zachdanks shots in detail and i am almost sold on this camera...i just need a memory card now.

what size do you guys recomend. i noticed on the website it said 15 pictures for 126 MB so should i go 1 gig? and what cards are compatible, and what am i looking at spending on a card? Or does the camera have internal memory up to a certain amount of pictures before it needs a card?

No internal memory in a digital SLR. I would get a couple of 1 gig cards. They're pretty cheap now. You can get slow ones for about $20 if you look around. I think I paid about $300 for my first 1 gig card

I would recommend getting a faster card. You don't have to buy a pro card. But try to find a 16x or faster. It will make a difference when you download it and if you're shooting sequences or a lot of photos in quick succession. Card compatibility shouldn't be an issue. Someone posted something about a problem with Lexar card and the 30D, but I've never heard of that. I did have a problem with a Fuji xD card once. But that was with my card reader, not the camera. And new card reader drivers took care of it.

300$...i dont think i would ever pay that...what does your 16x go for...ill see what i can get them for at best buy and ill buy 2, as fast as i can afford.

thanks alot, and ill post some pictures of our crappy weather tommorow :D should test out the clarity in the rain

I just bought a SanDisk 1 gig CF II card with shipping and everything for $25.51 including shipping on ebay.
I also just received my XTi yesterday from ebay and am borrowing a friend 512 MB SanDisk card and it works great.
By the way, I really love the clarity of the XTi's pictures. This is my first DSLR and am glad I did it.

Sorry to hear about the little delay. It's probably just store policy. Everyone wants plastic these days. And I guarantee it will be worth the wait :)
