The weather has been in a funk lately and nothing terribly exciting has been happening so I thought I might make a series of these common (thistles?). Anyway, they are about the only thing "purty" going on so I figured I might as well give it a go.

Oh, I shot a series with these flowers as well.

That first one has three (count 'em) bugs on it as the same time. Unfortunately, not a good picture technically :(

Those are great, Loupey. Last summer, I would stake out the thistles around my where my sister used to live...I'd see butterflies and goldfinches, and even a couple of those hummingbird moths that you posted a couple weeks ago.

I love the first shot too, btw...with the three bugs...very cool. :)

It kinda looks like a cross between an ant and a yellow jackets. I was trying to capture one of those on my raspberries yesterday with no luck (or at least something very similar) Little bugger just wouldn't co-operate. Next time maybe I'll offer some honey =)

Emily, like you I did notice some goldfinches in the area but I can't get anywhere near them for the kind of shot I'm picturing :( Thanks for the looking! As for the first shot, I saw that bee enter my viewfinder so I had to shoot :p Too bad that the wind blew the flower (and its two other occupants) out of the DOF that I had preset. The tips of the petals on the left and bottom are nice and sharp :mad2:

Jaedon - I have no idea! They are slightly larger than lightening bugs and seem to move around quite a bit. But they fly nice and slow and steady so I was thinking of shooting one in the air :p Thanks!

Looks like a longhorn beetle to me, but I am not too sure :wink:

i really like the second thistle one. with the black background. there is one light spot on the right side though thats alittle distracting from the darkness. but they are all good.
