My daughter looking on but at the same time trying to keep her distance LOL. Gives you some idea of the size of our little visitor with a human in shot. :D

Very cool Alison. I didn't know that lens could get away with a macro like that. You are so quick to think that you bounced your flash as well. Very cool.

Well, I did have it on macro mode so maybe that helped.

Nice catch here Alison. I think the women around house would have run for a fly swatter rather than a camera.

That's a good point actually LOL
The thought never even entered my head!!!
My first thought was "quick grab the camera and attach my flash"

By the time I got back to the chair it had moved and I thought I had lost my chance, but it carried on walking around the chair allowing me to get a few shots.

Gina came down and said "Mother! What are you doing?" I think she thought I was taking pics of the chair LOL.
She stood really close to the chair and I pointed the grasshopper out to her. She screamed and jumped away from the chair pretty quick.
I laughed!

Then I got hubby to put it in a glass for me, so I could put it in the garden.
It was the least I could do after it had let me get some pics. I actually got the grasshopper to sign a model release before I released it. So it's all good. :D

Nice cricket.
Definitely female, you can see the ovipositor at the rear.
Yes, she lays eggs through that thing on her tail end, usually probing into bark to find a nice spot.
Closest match in my book is the Speckled bush cricket, but there are far more species than in my book :)

That is one cool looking cricket there! Nice detail and the second image is pretty neat with the OOF daughter BG.
