I'm playing catchup over here. Tried to duplicate some of the images that I've seen you guys posting with only limited success. At any rate here are a few from this afternoon. These are with the D70.

Thanks Knight. No tubes here. I was using the 70-300 Sigma on one camera and the 80-200 Nikkor with the 1.4x teleconverter on the other. I was trying out some of Loupey's tricks, as I said with limited success.

You had a lot of cooperative subjects today :)

It's nice that the heat/humidity streak has snapped recently. Makes it that much more enjoyable just to get out and shoot something!

Good shooting.

You are so right. This is the first time I have even ventured out in about two week. This evening was very pleasant.

Nice work OT as usual! They are all very good, but i like the spider and the first image taken with the D2H good DOF really sets them forward.

We have had it hot over here, but sounds like nothing to what you guys are having.Phew!

Thanks Bev. I wanted to try Loupey's techniques with the longer lenses and went out hand holding like he does. I think I have reached an age were I need a little more support however. Next time I try this I'm going to include the mono pod. If that doesn't work it's back to the old tripod and my stand by methods.

OT, I've started to use my monopod lately for those "anticipatory" flight shots of insects and birds when I remember to take it. The weight of my rig is just about too much for me to hand hold at the ready position for the long periods of time that I find I must wait sometimes (1 to 2 minutes with my finger pressure just below the threshhold to trip it).

Although restricting, I find the monopod to be a good compromise between no support and a tripod. But I have missed a few hummingbirds in the time it takes to pivot the camera on the monopod, reposition my stance, and try to locate the bugger in the viewfinder. When that happens, any spectator is sure to see me tossing the monopod to the ground :p

All the post here this summer had me out looking for them as well. I hope that I get a lot better at this little game.

I love little things and have a great time figuring out how to best capture them. Thanks for the nice comment.
