Hey everyone. I just bought a Samsung Digimax S500, and I've never had much experience with digital cameras (I have a 35mm SLR, but I wanted something smaller that could take pictures on the go and this is one seemed to fit what I was looking for). I literally bought it 7 hours ago and have been playing with it all day. About an hour ago I noticed that the camera was making a "croaking" noise right before the shutter went off. I don't have a memory card yet (I'm being given one on Monday) but I don't know if that's effecting anything. I don't know if a lot of digital cameras do that, or if I should return it and get a new one. Any suggestions, please? Thank you in advance.

Is it literally like an electronic version of a frog croaking? A lot of digital cameras have different shutter sound options. Canon has a dog bark and I had one that could meow. There's usually a setting that allows you to change the sound or turn it off. Check your manual to see if your camera offers that kind of option. I think it probably does. A frog croak shutter release sound would be a Samsung kind of feature :)

Crossing my fingers for you!

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, it isn't a frog croaking kind of sound. I know what you mean by the shutter sound though, my camera does have them (my favorite is a maniacal laugh) but this sound happens even when a different sound is chosen. I wasn't sure if lots of cameras had a mandatory (thats not the word I'm looking for; I cant think of the right word) shutter sound that automatically went off. I appreciate your feedback! :-)

I forgot that you said you just bought the camera. If you really think it's a problem, tek it back and compare it to another camera of the same model. If it's not the same, return it for another one. I was hoping for the best. And without hearing the sound it's really hard for me to know. Comparing to another camera will tell you for sure.
