I took these shots at an MMA event last wednesday, the 2nd. It's my first crack at fight photography. Let me know what you think. www.snaplocally.com/efx

Wow. There's a lot of good stuff in there. I think my favorite is actually the very first one - the wide color shot of the whole room. I would love to see one like that with a fight going on. But I understand that it would have been a hard shot to get since you'd have to give up being ringside.

Of the fight images, I like this one a lot. It's iconic: http://www.snaplocally.com/efx/pages/040.htm

Image quality is nice and gritty. It's great. Adds to the down and dirty feel. Can you give us some of the technical details? You should also post 4 or 5 of your best in oursports and action gallery (http://gallery.photographyreview.com/showgallery.php?cat=502).

Thanks for the feedback, John.

I didn't exactly know what to expect going in there in as far as which camera settings to use, but the one thing I did know is I probably shouldn't use a flash.

The lighting was decent, but darker than I anticipated. As you probably guessed all one can really do is up the ISO and open up the aperture, then use the fastest shutter speed possible. A lot of my shots would be something like 400 ISO, f/2.8, 100th sec all while trying to focus on fast-paced action against a cage. It was harder work than what I had in mind- competing with the videographers for space, trying not to obscure the fans view and trying to position myself for the action, but I can't complain. It was a learning experience and a half.
