This was taken at Brookgreen Gardens in Myrtle Beach, I like the lighting, but do you think the crop is too loose?

I find the colors and the exposure to be terrific. These flowers seems luminescent. What I don't like however is that they are dead centered. I am not too sure how I would crop this but I feel that a crop to put the flowers off center is mandatory.

Jeff - Welcome to PR's forums.

Really pretty deep blue here.

I like your photo overall and think it shows a good eye for noticing scenes. As far as changes, I think that the bloom could be just a little larger in the frame and perhaps moved over to the right so that it only has the blue behind it. Better yet, you could have moved over to the left a little and still centered the bloom (which looks OK being centered here, imo). So I guess the answer to the crop question is "yes." I would sharpen it just a little also.

Myrtle beach... Haven't heard about that place in awhile :)

I would have stepped left and put the lit flowers in that patch of sky, framing them with the out of focus and shaded baclground trees.
Then it would be OK to eb centred, because it's framed - at least I think so :)

Very nice exposier and as others have said the colors are terrific. With that in mind the real shot to me is a small length of the branch, the blooms, and solid deep blue behind. I would have left out the entire tree as a background. But, a nice photo, colors are really nice.

Thanks for the kind words!

My thought behind the trees being in the back was that it provided a contrast to budding life, and what looks like decaying death. Being from the north I don't get to see trees with all that dead stuff draping from it :), thought I would try to make it work for me.

Cropping it to move it from the center leftwards would add to the contrast between blooming life and decaying death, as in life peeking in, a glimmer of life as you entitled this!

At least that's what i think!

Otherwise, great shot! :)

Hey J, that looks like moss hanging from the tree. If it is moss it's not decaying, it grows on the trees down south. If you already knew that just ignore me.

Last month I took my GF to visit my family in Tampa, FL. She's originally from Indiana. When she saw all the moss on the trees you would have thought she was from another planet the way she was in awe of it. It was strange, but cute.

I think your photo is composed well. However I'd have to disagree with GB. I'm not sure that moving the bloom anywhere else in the photo would give it that much more impact, but I'd still try it just to see how it turned out.
